ORACLE DELIVERS WORLD RECORD TPC-C BENCHMARK ON LINUX
Outperforms Microsoft SQL server by 14% on identical processors

September 17, 2002 - Oracle Corp (NASDAQ:ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced the world record TPC-C 32-processor clustered benchmark on Linux using Oracle9i Database Release 2 with Real Application Clusters. The new clustered world record result achieved 138,362.025 tpmC and a price performance of $17.21/tpmC running on an eight-node cluster with Intel Pentium III Xeon Processors and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server software. Using the identical processors and the same amount of memory per CPU in a 32-processor cluster configuration, Oracle’s database on Linux outperformed Microsoft SQL Server 2000’s best result in this category by 14 percent . Oracle is now the TPC-C 32-processor cluster performance and price performance leader on both Linux and Windows 2000 Advanced Server. 1, 2

Oracle has a long history of benchmark performance World Records. This result adds the first Linux TPC-C Cluster to that record, demonstrating Oracle9i Real Application Clusters' ability to deliver excellent enterprise-class performance – now in a Linux environment – without compromising the availability, reliability, and security that customers expect from real-world applications.

The TPC-C is an OLTP (online transaction processing) benchmark developed by the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC). The TPC-C benchmark defines a rigorous standard for calculating performance and price/performance measured by transaction per minute (tpmC) and $/tpmC, respectively.
