RESTON, VA (August 19, 2002) – VIA NET.WORKS, Inc. (Nasdaq and EASE: VNWI) today announced the addition of three key executives that solidify VIA’s executive management team. These three professionals will be responsible for directing VIA’s technology, corporate development and human resources efforts for the Company's global operations.
Ray Walsh has joined as Senior Vice President Technology and Operations and will be responsible for ensuring that VIA continues to provide the highest quality network performance and management for its customers. In addition, Michael Magluilo has been appointed to the position of Vice President Corporate Development responsible for managing acquisition, sale and partnership transactions central to VIA’s turnaround plan; and Rebecca Markovits has been named Vice President Human Resources leading VIA’s global human resources and personnel matters. All positions will report to Karl Maier, VIA’s President and Chief Operating Officer and acting Chief Executive Officer and are effective immediately.

Ray Walsh, Senior Vice President Technology and Operations
Mr. Walsh joins VIA with more than 13 years of experience in global network operations, technology and management, most recently from KPNQwest where he served as Senior Vice President of Operations and CIO. In addition, Mr. Walsh served in various technology and operational management positions at Qwest, LCI International and WilTel. Mr. Walsh holds a B.S. in Management Science and Computer Systems from Oklahoma State University.
Michael Magluilo, Vice President Corporate Development
Michael Magluilo brings over nine years of corporate development, merger & acquisition, capital markets and management experience to VIA. Previously, Mr. Magluilo was with Level 3 Communications where he was Vice President of Corporate Development for North America following seven years in investment banking. Mr. Magluilo holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Rebecca Markovits, Vice President Human Resources
Ms. Markovits brings to VIA over 12 years of international human resources experience. She joins VIA from KPNQwest where she headed up the global human resources group. Previously she held positions with ITT World Directories and American Express International, Inc.
