Afgelopen week is ’s werelds eerste ‘Certified Data Vault Model’ – certificaat uitgereikt aan Frank Lukassen, corporate information manager van Nutreco en verantwoordelijk voor het ontwerp en de realisatie van Nutreco’s corporate datawarehouse. Het certificaat is na een grondige toets door the Data Vault Institute toegekend en staat garant voor een schaalbaar, flexibel en auditeerbaar data model.Met name in het afgelopen jaar heeft Data Vault in de wereld van business intelligence en datawarehousing een enorme vlucht genomen. Vele organisaties maken al gebruik van de principes en modellen of overwegen hun architectuur daarop te baseren. Om optimaal te kunnen profiteren van de vele technische en functionele voordelen van Data Vault is het van essentieel belang de grondprincipes nauwkeurig te volgen. The Data Vault Institute bewaakt wereldwijd de kwaliteit van Data Vault toepassingen. Certificering waarborgt de correcte toepassing van de basisprincipes en garandeert een stabiel, flexibel, uitbreidbaar en auditeerbaar data model.
Begin 2008 kregen de architecten en specialisten van Centennium BI expertisehuis van Nutreco de opdracht een toekomstvast, uitbreidbaar en auditeerbaar corporate datawarehouse te ontwerpen en te realiseren. Gezien de doelstellingen en ambities van Nutreco is gekozen voor een data model basis van Data Vault.
Het door Dan Linstedt ontwikkelde Data Vault concept past naadloos binnen de referentiearchitectuur van Centennium. Deze architectuur huisvest alle belangrijke componenten (waaronder master-data en meta-data management) en is business driven. Samen creëren zij een intelligente scheiding van de registratie en presentatie van gegevens en ondersteunen ze verschillende informatieroutes en uitgebreide controles op correctheid en consistentie van gegevens. Het gehele proces van ontwerp, realisatie en implementatie van het corporate datawarehouse heeft niet langer dan zes maanden geduurd. De komende periode zullen de verschillende Nutreco business units op het corporate datawarehouse worden aangesloten en zal waar nodig het model worden uitgebreid.
Hoewel het corporate datawarehouse al enkele maanden eerder in productie is genomen werd pas recentelijk het officiële certificaat uitgereikt. Na de oplevering hebben Dan Linstedt en Hans Hultgren, grondleggers van Data Vault en oprichters van the Data Vault Institute, het corporate datawarehouse en het data model aan een grondige toets onderworpen. Na hun positieve beoordeling hebben zij er ’s werelds eerste Data Vault data model certificaat aan toegekend. Op 8 juli 2009 ontving Frank Lukassen het certificaat persoonlijk uit handen van Dan Linstedt en Hans Hultgren.

THE WORLD’S FIRST ‘CERTIFIED DATA VAULT DATA MODEL’, IN THE NETHERLANDS
The Hague – the Netherlands, 9 july 2009. Last week, the worlds very first ‘Certified Data Vault Data Model’ certificate was presented to Frank Lukassen, corporate information manager for Nutreco and responsible for the design and implementation of Nutreco’s corporate data warehouse. The certificate was awarded after a certification review process by the Data Vault Institute and guarantees the scalability, flexibility and auditability of the data model.
Within the world of business intelligence and datawarehousing, Data Vault has seriously taken off in the last year. Many organizations are already using the Data Vault principles and models, or are contemplating a Data Vault based BI architecture. To fully empower the technical and functional benefits of the Data Vault it is essential to methodically follow the core principles. The Data Vault Institute provides quality assurance for Data Vault implementations worldwide. Certification guarantees the correct application of the Data Vault principles and warrants a scalable, flexible and auditable data model.
Early 2008 Nutreco commissioned Centennium’s architects and specialists to design, build and implement a new corporate datawarehouse. In light of Nutreco’s goals and ambitions, in terms of scalablity, flexibility and auditability, a data model based on Data Vault principles was chosen.
The Data Vault concept was developed by Dan Linstedt and fits seamlessly within Centennium’s reference BI architecture. This architecture envelopes all mayor components (such as master-data and meta-data management) and is business driven. Together they intelligently separate data-registration and data-presentation and provide for a diversification of information-routes and extensive checks and balances for data validity and consistency. The entire process from design, realization and implementation took less than six months. Over the next few months, the various Nutreco business units will become connected to the corporate datawarehouse and the data model will be expanded to meet these needs.
Although the corporate datawarehouse had been brought into production several months earlier, the official certificate was delivered only recently. After the corporate datawarehouse had been brought into production, Dan Linstedt and Hans Hultgren, founders of the Data Vault Institute, have subjected the datawarehouse and data model to a thorough review and inspection. After the positive outcome, they awarded it the world’s very first Data Vault Data Model certification. On 8 july 2009, Frank Lukassen personally received the official certificate from Dan Linstedt and Hans Hultgren in the Netherlands.
