CA TO RESELL STOREAGE SAN VOLUME MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS WITH BRIGHTSTOR SOFTWARE Complementary Solutions to Help Customers Simplify Heterogeneous SAN Administration ISLANDIA, N.Y., and IRVINE, Calif., January 10, 2006 – CA (NYSE:CA) and StoreAge Networking Technologies today announced an agreement under which CA will resell StoreAge's cross-platform virtualization and multi-tiered data protection solutions with its BrightStor intelligent storage management software. The combination will help customers simplify storage administration and enhance data protection in heterogeneous Storage Area Networks (SANs).
“Organizations need to optimize storage resources and data in SAN environments while protecting critical production applications,” said Chris Broderick, senior vice president and general manager of CA's storage management business unit. “By offering StoreAge's SAN volume management and data protection technology with our BrightStor software, CA will enable customers to manage large and complex storage resources more effectively.”
According to IDC, storage capacities and practices that IT managers thought would support company growth for years are just providing breathing room for a few months, resulting in frequent disruptions in systems and applications. *
“The highly complementary CA and StoreAge solutions address the functional requirements of IT organizations with multi-vendor storage environments,” said Laura DuBois, research director for Storage Software at IDC. “Streamlined management of these environments is essential as the total volume of data grows across the enterprise, while the human resources to manage increasing volumes of data remain flat.”
StoreAge Virtualization Manager (SVM) employs a “split path” architecture to provide single-point control, virtual volume management and advanced snapshot and replication technology across all storage within a SAN. When used with CA's BrightStor Storage Resource Manager, it helps control costs and optimize SAN resource utilization by dynamically moving data to less expensive media as the business value of the data decreases.
SVM also works with CA's BrightStor ARCserve Backup to minimize backup and recovery windows by providing SAN-wide online backup to disk and tape, local/remote data mirroring, rapid online recovery, and remote vaulting. This helps IT administrators ensure business continuity, reduce data protection costs and minimize risk of data loss without interrupting their production environment.
