Oracle Named Market Share Leader in Business Analytics Software by Market Research Firm
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., August 8, 2005 – Oracle today announced that it has been named the leading business analytics software vendor based on 2004 software revenue by analyst firm International Data Corporation (IDC). IDC defines the business analytics software market as comprising tools and applications for tracking, storing, analyzing, modeling, and presenting data in support of automating decision-making and reporting processes.
IDC’s report, “Analytics and Data Warehousing Software: Market Analysis,” determined that Oracle is the leader with 13.2 percent market share and revenues of $2 billion for 2004. Oracle’s 15 percent growth rate from 2003 to 2004 exceeded the market growth rate by 2.7 percentage points. The combination of its size and strong year-over-year revenue growth in business analytics give Oracle the lead over any other vendor in the market, according to IDC.
Overall, IDC estimates that the business analytics market grew by 12.3 percent in 2004 and to $15.1 billion in software revenue. The report is available here.
“Oracle was again the largest business analytics vendor in 2004,” said Dan Vesset, Research Director, Analytics & Data Warehousing, IDC. “Also based on IDC’s business analytics market map as presented in this report, Oracle was the vendor with the greatest momentum -- year-over-year growth multiplied by market revenue. Given its large size in the market, the company still experienced an above-market growth rate, resulting in its ranking number one in momentum.”
