GUILDFORD, U.K., March 8 2004 — NetScreen Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: NSCN) today announced that the majority of its integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) appliances and systems have achieved the Common Criteria EAL4+ certification using a stringent U.S. government firewall protection profile. The NetScreen-5XP, -5XT, -25, -50, -204, -208 appliances and the NetScreen-500 system now join the NetScreen-5200 security system, which was the first firewall platform to receive the same EAL4+ certification last year.
These NetScreen appliances and systems have received Common Criteria EAL4+ certification using the U.S. Government Traffic-Filter Firewall Protection Profile for Medium Robustness Environments, version 1.4. To be certified with the medium robustness protection profile, the National Security Agency (NSA) performed vulnerability and penetration testing on the products in conjunction with source code analysis, verifying they meet a specific set of stringent security requirements.
The NSA has developed the protection profiles for firewall products and mandates that the Department of Defense networks use firewall products certified against these protection profiles, when there are certified products available. The NetScreen-5XP, -5XT, -25, -50, -204, -208 appliances and the NetScreen-500, -5200 systems running ScreenOS 4.0.2 r7 are the first products to be certified for government networks requiring the medium robustness protection profile.
