Brussels, 23rd September 2003 - I.R.I.S. Group, a leader in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology for document management applications, today announced the signature of a new licensing agreement with Eastman Kodak Company.
Under the terms of this agreement the following technologies developed by I.R.I.S. will be integrated in the new versions of Kodak Capture Software:
Barcode recognition: the I.R.I.S. engine recognizes 17 different types of
barcodes: CODABAR, Code 39, Code 39 HIBC, Code 39 Ext, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 128, Code 93, Code 2 of 5, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN 13, EAN 8, PostNet,
PDF417 (2d barcode), UCC 128, MSI and MSIPH
PDF 417: It allows the recognition of the two dimensional barcode PDF - 417. Advanced techniques allow delivering top performance for PDF-417 recognition.
OCR recognition: the I.R.I.S. engine performs Omnifont recognition and allows the recognition of up to 99 languages. Its superior accuracy and speed make it ideal for professional applications.
Patchcode recognition: The I.R.I.S. engine allows the recognition of patchcodes. Patchcodes are special barcodes allowing the automatic indexing of a batch. They are simple to read, static and position imposed barcodes.
The first version integrating these three technologies is Kodak Capture Software 6.0, which has been recently released on the market. Kodak Capture Software 6.0 supports the entire scanner product line of Kodak from high-speed production scanners to departmental capture products.
"We are pleased with this new cooperation with Kodak. Kodak Capture Software is one of the leading scanning solutions in the document imaging market and we think that these new additions will make it even more popular," said Dr. Pierre De Muelenaere, President & CEO of I.R.I.S. Group.
"We are very excited about Kodak Capture Software 6.0. This version contains many new features. For instance, thanks to the I.R.I.S. OCR technology, the product can now perform automated zonal OCR-based indexing, which greatly improves productivity by reducing the need for key from image," said Anthony Barbeau, Worldwide Director of Business Strategy & Assistant General Manager of Kodak's document imaging products.
