SANTA CLARA, July 17 2003 -- Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), a leading provider of security and availability solutions, today announced that General Dynamics Network Systems is deploying McAfee(R) WebShield(R) appliances to protect and support the integrated intranet for the U.S. Navy Base Level Information Infrastructure (BLII) improvements outside of the continental United States (OCONUS). Today's announcement reflects revenue that was recognized by Network Associates(R) in the first quarter of 2003.
The contract from General Dynamics Network Systems provides protection to more than 30,000 nodes at Department of Defense facilities in Europe, the Far East and the Middle East using the McAfee WebShield e250 and e500 appliances. General Dynamics Network Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). General Dynamics is deploying McAfee's comprehensive WebShield Internet gateway solution in accordance with the requirements for BLII project. The BLII project requirements include a secure operating environment, configuration management and the ability to use common Navy applications across the enterprise.
McAfee WebShield appliances are integrated solutions designed to stop the destructive path of all types of viruses and malicious code, and provide enterprise-level servers with multiple protocol anti-virus support by scanning email, web, and dial-up mail traffic. In addition to filtering and scanning email traffic, the WebShield appliances are installation-friendly and offer behind-the-scenes scanning for viruses and spam email.
"More and more, government IT enterprise managers are realizing how vulnerable they can be to electronic threats," said Mark Small, senior vice president of Government, Health and Education for Network Associates. "The Navy and General Dynamics are taking every measure to ensure that the Navy BLII OCONUS operation is well protected from malicious code, viruses and other Internet threats. We're excited that we can help protect the critical assets of the Navy abroad."
The inclusion of WebShield appliances in the BLII OCONUS architecture is the latest in a series of recent project announcements for Network Associates in support of the U.S. government and military and exemplifies its commitment to protecting government agencies from the Internet threats of today and tomorrow. Others recent contract awards include the Defense Information Systems Agency, Air Force Research Laboratories, Defense Logistics Agency and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
