Utrecht, March 31, 2003 - Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL), a global leader in enterprise mobility solutions, introduced the Symbol LS 2200, a handheld laser bar code scanner ideal for distribution by the company's reseller partners because its revolutionary new design makes it cost effective even as it provides greater performance and durability. Symbol pioneered the category of handheld laser bar code scanning more than 20 years ago.
The LS 2200 features a liquid injection molded (LIM) scan element that contains no bearings, moving parts or lubrication and is made from highly flexible material in a one-step economical process that makes it virtually indestructible. The scan element is guaranteed over the life of the product. The scanner, which withstands repeated five-foot drops to concrete, is constructed with a single circuit board to eliminate wired interconnects that can often be points of failure.
The board has been optimally positioned in the handle to provide superior balance and eliminate operator fatigue over a work shift. The ergonomics include an especially loud successful scan signal (beep) and bright LED signal. It has a rate of 100 scans per second that provides very aggressive performance on all traditional linear bar codes. It also decodes the new class of reduced space symbologies and is compliant with the UCC Sunrise 2005 mandate.
The LS 2200 also features multiple-interface capability that allows it to migrate from one host terminal to another by a simple cable change. This offers investment protection to an end user and minimizes stocking costs for distributors and value added resellers. The LS 2200 will be available in May.
"We believe the LS 2200 will be another success for our customers and partners. It's a great performer, extremely rugged and especially economical," said Garry Harper, vice president of merchandising for ScanSource, a Symbol distributor.
"The LS 2200 is a great value proposition for Symbol channel partners and is the best scanner in its class," said Robert Sanders, vice president & general manager, scanning systems, Symbol Technologies. "We listened to and worked closely with our partners. They wanted performance and durability at a great price."
