(Nasdaq: MACR) today announced the immediate availability of Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX 1.5, including key functionality to extend its position as the premier platform for enabling compelling, interactive, rich media audio/video applications such as on-demand video, live event broadcasts, webcam chat, and recorded video messaging. Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX integrates support for streaming media, real-time collaboration, and multi-way video, audio, and text messaging into a single solution. With HTTP Tunneling and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) gateway support, server traffic can now traverse firewalls and proxies and deliver secure information to ensure everyone can experience the content. MP3 support enables developers to stream high-quality audio without requiring the user to download and playback audio files. Audio support is also improved in this update through better synchronization with video and better latency management for live streams.
With more hosting providers and ISPs supporting Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX, this new release includes better administration and management of virtual hosts. This server update adds support for Red Hat Linux 7.3 and higher. This new version also simplifies the addition of short-term capacity for sites that host events where short term traffic spikes are expected. 90-day unlimited capacity packs, as well as the ability to stack capacity on existing servers, offers more flexibility and capacity planning options for developers.
Macromedia today also announced a free Developer Edition of Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX 1.5. The Developer Edition is a fully functioning, but capacity-restricted, version of the server that application developers can use to learn the product and author applications.

DSL, a broadband service developed through an alliance between Yahoo! and SBC Communications Inc. An innovative Internet service that delivers an entirely new kind of broadband experience, SBC Yahoo! DSL uses the Macromedia server to deliver streaming video news and movie trailers on-demand.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX 1.5, which runs on Windows and Linux, is available today for immediate download from the Macromedia Online Store (http://www.macromedia.com/store/). Pricing is €454 for the Personal Edition and starts at €4,090 for the Professional Edition. Upgrades from 1.0 are free for Professional Edition users, and €90 for Personal Edition users. 90-day capacity packs are priced at €6,820. Education and volume licensing is available.
