Citrix Introduces Citrix® NFuse® Classic Portlet for IBM® WebSphere® Portal

Portlet Extends Access to Windows®, UNIX® and Web Applications without Extensive Server or Application Customisation

24 June 2002 - Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a global leader in virtual workplace software and services, today announced it has developed a portlet that enables users to configure Citrix® NFuse® Classic access portal software with the IBM® WebSphere® Portal solution.  Portlets are small, flexible parts of applications that connect WebSphere Portal users to additional applications, content, processes or people.  The NFuse Classic portlet provides users with instant access to Windows®, UNIX®, Java™ and native Web applications from the WebSphere Portal.  Citrix and IBM (NYSE:IBM) will jointly market the portlet to enterprise organisations.

IBM’s WebSphere Portal family provides a single point of interaction with dynamic information, applications, processes and people, which are essential for building successful business-to-employee (B2E), business-to-business(B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) portals.

“A key component of an effective portal is seamless connection to the applications and content that users need on a daily basis,” said Larry Bowden, vice president, IBM Portals Solutions Software Group.  “Citrix NFuse Classic is a valuable complement to WebSphere Portal’s ability to provide users with easy access to client/server and Web-based applications from any location, regardless of the device they are using to interact with their corporate portal.  This will help our customers deploy and access a broad range of applications, from office productivity software like Microsoft Office to strategic line of business applications.”

With the NFuse Classic portlet, WebSphere Portal customers can access Web-enabled and non-Web-enabled applications through a Web browser.  The combination of NFuse Classic and WebSphere Portal allows enterprise organisations to provide users with unprecedented access to applications as well as managed, personalised content and other information.  The NFuse Classic portlet was designed by Citrix Consulting Services™ (CCS), the company’s consulting arm.

“The Citrix NFuse Classic portlet helps portal software vendors accelerate time-to-value for their customers, enabling them to quickly integrate the native interface and complete functionality of any application running in a Citrix environment into the portals,” said Larry Hawes, senior advisor, Delphi Group.  “Citrix software is widely deployed across Global 2000 firms, many of which are also IBM customers.  As a result of this alliance, these joint customers will now be able to access existing client server applications within their WebSphere portals through the NFuse Classic portlet.”

“Our development work with IBM has resulted in a very powerful solution for enterprise organisations that need Web-based access to a wide range of applications without extensive customisation,” said David Jones, senior vice president, corporate marketing and development, for Citrix.  “This portlet provides the building blocks for enterprises to adapt and integrate Citrix NFuse Classic and IBM WebSphere Portal for unique enterprise environments. Customers are provided with the ability to effectively integrate, personalise and manage applications from a central location and deliver them via a standard browser.”

Since 1996, Citrix has been working closely with IBM on development, testing, sales, marketing and support to bring complete application serving solutions to customers.  As a member of the IBM PartnerWorld Portlet Providers Program, Citrix is committed to helping IBM provide customers with Web-based access to existing applications via the WebSphere Portal.  Citrix is working with IBM on future development plans for the NFuse Classic portlet as well as go to market initiatives.
