REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 5, 2002 -
(http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1374038) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL), the largest enterprise software vendor, today furthered its commitment to Linux for the enterprise, announcing that it will for the first time provide its customers with enterprise-level, front-line technical support for the Red Hat Linux Advanced Server operating system (OS). Continuing Oracle's vow to provide the highest level of support and availability to its customers, the company has worked closely with Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq: RHAT), the world's premier open source and Linux provider, to create a joint escalation team that can best service the entire Oracle stack running on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. The new support service is available immediately for customers who have an Oracle support contract and maintain support contracts for Red Hat Linux Advanced Server.
Customers who have deployed Oracle products on selected hardware platforms that are certified with Red Hat Linux Advanced Server now can turn to Oracle for technical support, where they will see improved response and faster resolution of critical issues. Oracle will identify technical support issues and work with Red Hat to expedite escalation with a single point of customer contact. Customers will benefit from joint engineering efforts as Oracle collaborates with Red Hat to integrate required fixes into Red Hat Linux Advanced Server in future maintenance releases.
"Oracle has provided yet another validation for enterprise customers who want to run mission-critical business applications on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server," said Carolyn Sparano, vice president, Global Support & Services, Red Hat, Inc. "By working together to provide technical support for customers deploying Oracle on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, Oracle and Red Hat have shown a commitment that underscores both companies' confidence in the operating system for enterprise infrastructures."
Oracle and Red Hat have also been working closely to develop, test and improve Linux in the areas of performance, reliability, clustering and manageability, providing the highest level of performance for enterprise-class database applications running on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. Red Hat will also include the Oracle database in its development testing methodology, ensuring early validation and integration. These joint efforts enable customers to deploy mission-critical business infrastructures that are high performance, cost efficient and offer a lowered total cost of ownership.
"Our belief is that Linux running on Oracle is a fabulous combination for an operating system and gives customers yet another open choice for their hardware platform," said Juan Jones, vice president, System Platforms Division, Oracle Corp. "Together with Red Hat, we will work to give customer frontline support and diagnose and fix problems customers encounter and provide them with the critical fixes they need in a timely manner."
