Amersfoort, 29 maart 2012 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), leverancier van opensourceoplossingen, en Zarafa, een Europees softwarebedrijf op het gebied van open source groupware en collaboration software, kondigen aan dat supermarktketen PLUS heeft gekozen voor Zarafa’s communicatie en collaboration platform dat draait op Red Hat’s besturingssysteem Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. De implementatie zal naar verwachting begin 2012 worden afgerond.
Supermarktketen PLUS heeft 269 eigen winkels en 229 franchise winkels in heel Nederland. De organisatie was op zoek naar een schaalbaar en stabiel collaboration- en communicatieplatform met een hoge beschikbaarheid en de volgende functionaliteiten: een agenda, continu toegang tot e-mails via remote access en via mobiele apparaten vanaf elke locatie, synchronisatie van en naar Active Directory, geautomatiseerd gebruikersbeheer en bovenal een systeem waarmee toekomstige uitbreidingen makkelijk te realiseren zijn. Dit was voorheen niet mogelijk vanwege een verouderd systeem dat in 1999 werd geïnstalleerd en het Outlook-platform dat op fat clients draaide en synchronisatie met mobiele apparaten niet mogelijk maakte.
Vanwege de uitgebreide mogelijkheden, de goede prestaties en de bewezen opensourcetechnologie die integratie met het hele portal systeem faciliteert, koos PLUS voor een private cloudarchitectuur met Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 en Zarafa. Er is een hybride omgeving gerealiseerd waarin de Zarafa Archiver de kosten van opslagcapaciteit optimaliseert door oude berichten in mailboxen te verplaatsen naar goedkopere opslag zodat PLUS kosten kan besparen.
De Red Hat High Availability Add-On clustering oplossing creëert een hoge beschikbaarheid cluster voor de Zarafa storage en archief servers en Apache webservers, die Zarafa web access en Z-push mobility services bieden en waarbij de downtime gereduceerd wordt. Indien een node niet meer werkt, kunnen diensten automatisch van een cluster node naar de andere worden overgezet.
PLUS start in eerste instantie met de agenda- en e-mailfunctionaliteit en verwacht die later uit te kunnen breiden met web meetings en chat. Met het geautomatiseerde gebruikersbeheer kan het bedrijf nieuwe winkels en gebruikers toevoegen met de bijbehorende rechten.

Aangezien mobiele communicatie steeds belangrijker wordt, zijn we blij dat Zarafa zijn communicatieplatform uitbreidt en de nadruk legt op mobiele functies.”
