Feldkirchen, 20th August 2008 - At this year’s Games Convention, Intel presents two highlights that will make gamers’ hearts beat faster. The quad-core processor for laptops provides power reserves on the notebook that to date have only been accomplished on high-end PCs. Desktop users will get their money’s worth as well: The new Intel® Core™ microarchitecture, codenamed Nehalem, and the first products called Intel® Core™ i7, will be in production this year, deliver a variety of new features and, thanks to turbo mode, increase the performance of multi-core optimized applications. The comfort and fun of playing games is ensured by the new gaming client ESL Wire. The beta version of the client will also be launched in the ESL Intel Arena in hall 3, booth B30/B40.
A world novelty: The first processor with four cores for notebooks The Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX9300 quad-core notebook processor enables con-sumers to play complex games and use multimedia applications on the notebook. Thanks to performance data users have so far only been familiar with on desktop PCs, the impressive rendering of future top games like Crysis Warhead or Bionic Commando has been facilitated. 2.53 GHz, a 12MB L2 cache and a front side bus with 1066 Mhz ensure a performance leap of more than 50%² and enable sophisticated artificial intelligence in games aimed to meet high gaming standards and pro-vide depth as well as real-world graphics. The Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX9300 quad-core mobile processor offer users an increase in performance of up to 50%³ for processing and rendering complex HD movies. Users who need even more power than the most rapid mobile quad-core processor currently available worldwide offers may tune the processor at will, as it does not contain over clocking protection. Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utilities delivered by notebook suppliers open up versatile opportunities to boost the speed of the notebook. Another benefit: Intel works with software providers like Ascaron, Capcom, EA, Activision, THQ and others to optimize the applications for multi-core processors. As a result, computationally intensive professional software like CAD programs run in the background without any problems, while users and customers discuss the latest corrections of the draft. Maxon, Main Concept or Corel Digital Media are just some of Intel’s partners.
High-speed desktop: The Intel® Core™ i7 processor family sets new standardsThe new Intel® Core™ i7 processors are based on the Intel® Core™ micro architecture (Nehalem). They open up utterly new opportunities for multithreading. Built on the Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology, the quad-core processors are able to process up to eight threads at the same time. Consequently, multi-threaded applications programmed for several cores will in future benefit from accelerated computation. Many games and applications have already been designed for the use of multiple cores. The new Intel® Core™ micro architecture automatically adjusts to single or dual core applications – thanks to the turbo mode. In the case that not all of the four cores are used, but just one or two, the clock rate of the active cores is automatically increased, invisible to the user and compatible with all applications. In doing so, the processor does not exceed the maximum power consumption limit or temperature permitted. Nehalem-based micro processors switch the cores on or off as required via so-called ”power gates” to save energy and optimize the power of each individual application.
The reinvention of online gaming - ESL Wire makes the life of gamblers easierThe ESL Wire software was developed by Intel and ESL to integrate key gaming features in one single application and combine chatting, gaming and searching for opponents. The anti cheat tool ESL Aequitas as well as latency compensation en-sure technical fairness in online gaming. Users are able to develop extensions for ESL Wire via a plug-in system. The beta version of the tool will be demonstrated in the ESL Intel Arena on August 20. The download of the free full product version is available at
