The research

The research is composed of two phases. During the first phase European ICT companies are investigated on their financial performance with an emphasis on growth of turnover, profitability, yield, liquidity and solvency. On the basis of the results an objective rating is set. During the second phase a judgement about qualitative performance as market share in the core market, results related to market growth, technological leadership, R&D effort, strategy and vision, quality of the management, client focus, overall quality of employment and training is passed. This is based on a company’s history, its current situation and permanent research.

This qualitative judgement can influence the final rating from zero percent to over 30% in both a positive and a negative way. Both phases form the final rating as published in the report The European ICT Top 100 Benchmark Report 1999. The rating goes from "very weak" to "excellent". Second and third places in the 1999 final rating were awarded to CMG and Getronics NV.
