JOIN GOOGLE AND OTHER BUSINESS LEADERS ON BT'S BIG THINKERS SERIES
Business leaders including Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Infosys CEO Nandan M. Nilekani share their insights on the forces shaping business, government and society in the 21st Century, in an exclusive eforum series launched by BT. BT's Big Thinkers series, hosted on www.btbigthinkers.bt.com, features some of the world's most provocative big thinkers, interviewed by prominent Internet visionary and investor Esther Dyson as well as an online panel of senior business leaders.
BT's Big Thinkers series will cover a range of subjects, from empowering small businesses to managing a company that is an economy unto itself in the 21st century. This groundbreaking series represents a step forward in participative media, allowing C-level executives to have dialogue with the world's leading minds from the convenience of their own office in an invitation-only panel format. These eforums are later made available to a much wider audience as a webcast on the BT website and as a video podcast through Apple iTunes.
In the first of the series, hosted by Tim Smart, president of BT Global Services, Dr Schmidt discussed the rise and rise of Google from its origins as a concept dreamed up by two guys in a dorm room into the business front-runner it is today, and how he is carefully managing Google through the daily challenges the company faces.
During the one hour interview, Dr Schmidt explained how Google is run as if "three wheels were off the rail", with a focus on creativity, collaboration and consensus-driven decision-making. He also discussed Google as a world citizen, tackling issues such as China, corporate governance and the challenge of complying with different legal systems around the world.
Other events in the series include "The Indian economy: customer and competitor", featuring Four senior Indian business leaders in a discussion about India's role in the digital networked economy. In "The paradox of choice", a select group of panellists join professional psychologist Barry Schwartz, author of "The Paradox of Choice", to examine why people do not necessarily feel happier when they have more choices. "Empowering small business" examines the challenges and opportunities the Internet creates for small businesses together with those who supply them with CEOs from salesforce.com, wikia.com and the Vice President of Yahoo! Small Business.
BT's Big Thinkers series takes advantage of new forms of collaboration and publishing made possible by the convergence of technology and new media to stimulate thought-provoking discussion on the role that technology and business plays in modern society.
Julie Woods-Moss, vice president of marketing, BT Global Services said: "The launch of such an innovative and interactive virtual executive roundtable series is a real milestone for BT and the industry. Convergence is at the heart of the digital networked economy, and it's about so much more than straight technology - it's about converging industries, new business models and new ways of thinking.
"The format of BT's Big Thinkers series lends itself to the fact that business and consumer mindsets are converging. Like MySpace meets the Truman Show, we are seeing a change in the way that business managers get their information, perhaps taking their lead from their children into virtual chat-rooms and discussion forums."
