Amsterdam, 30 November 2004 - BT heeft een overeenkomst getekend met vijftien organen van de Europese Unie voor de levering van netwerkdiensten waaronder de Europese Commissie, het Europees Parlement, het Hof van Justitie van de Europese Unie en de Europese Rekenkamer. De contractwaarde van de overeenkomst schat het Directoraat-Generaal Informatica van de Europese Commissie op 72 miljoen euro, met na vier jaar een mogelijke verlenging van nog eens vier jaar tot een totale waarde van 162 miljoen euro. Het contract omvat de levering van beheerde WAN-diensten (Wide Area Network) over IP, Remote Access en telewerkdiensten, internetfallback-diensten en netwerkadvies.
"We zijn er trots op dat de Europese Commissie haar vertrouwen stelt in BT," aldus François Barrault, President BT International. "Dit contract samen met de recent afgesloten overeenkomst met de Nederlandse politie, verstevigt de positie van BT in de Benelux."
Na de openbare aanbesteding in 2003 van raamwerkovereenkomst DI-04630-00 gunde het Directoraat-Generaal Informatica van de Europese Commissie het contract aan BT. De overeenkomst omvat de levering van netwerkdiensten aan de Europese Commissie, het Europees Parlement, het secretariaat van de Raad van de Europese Unie, het Hof van Justitie van de Europese Unie, de Europese Rekenkamer, het Europese Economische en Sociaal Comité, het Comité van de Regio's, de Europese Stichting tot verbetering van de levens- en arbeidsomstandigheden, het Europees Bureau voor de geneesmiddelenbeoordeling, het Vertaalbureau voor de organen van de Europese Unie, de Europese Autoriteit voor voedselveiligheid, het Europees Agentschap voor maritieme veiligheid, het Europees Agentschap voor de veiligheid van de luchtvaart en het Europees Bureau voor wederopbouw.

EUROPEAN UNION INSTITUTIONS CHOOSE BT FOR NETWORK SERVICES
BT today announced the signature of a framework contract for the provision of external network services to various EU institutions, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, among others.
The total order value for the initial duration of the agreement (4 years) is estimated by the European Commission DG Informatics at approximately 72 million EUR, with a potential of four additional years, bringing the market volume to approximately 162 million EUR(EC DIGIT estimate).
The new contract covers the provision of IP-based managed wide area network services (WAN), remote access services (RAS), teleworking services (TW), internet fallback services (IFB) and network consultancy.

We were able to demonstrate that we really understood the current issues and long term vision of the European institutions, as they face the challenges and opportunities of the digital networked economy. This contract also further strengthens BT's position in the Benelux, coming just weeks after the announcement of our EUR 31 million deal with the Dutch Police."

Following an open call for tenders that was launched in 2003, the framework contract ref DI - 04630-00 was awarded by the European Commission - DG Informatics. It covers the provision of external network services to the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, the Court of Justice, the Court of Auditors, the European Economic and Social Committee, the Committee of the Regions, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products, the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union, the European Food Safety Authority, the European Maritime Safety Agency, the European Aviation Safety Agency and the European Agency for Reconstruction.
