Maarssen, 17 augustus, 2004 - 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) heeft bekend gemaakt dat het strategische allianties heeft gesloten met toonaangevende gateway-leveranciers. Het doel van deze allianties is om eenvoudige plug-and-play-oplossingen voor Wi-Fi-gecertificeerde draadloze hotspots over de hele wereld te leveren. De draadloze producten van de nieuwe strategische partners zijn interoperabel met die van 3Com zodat een vlekkeloze werking van complete hotspot-systemen wordt gegarandeerd. De nieuwe strategische partners van 3Com zijn: Aptilo Networks, IP3 Networks, Nomadix, PatronSoft, Pronto Networks en SolutionInc Limited. Het vooruitzicht van de nieuwe draadloze hotspots, die met name geschikt zijn voor hotels, vliegvelden, treinstations, cafés en openbare gelegenheden, biedt tevens nieuwe mogelijkheden voor systeem-integrators binnen 3Com’s Channel Partner Program.
Met de nieuwe draadloze allianties breidt 3Com zijn productlijn voor hotspot-oplossingen verder uit, van eenvoudige authenticatie voor een draadloze hotspot tot verhoogde roaming-mogelijkheden tussen verschillende technologieën, zoals Wi-Fi en GPRS/UMTS.
De partners zijn betrokken in het nieuwe draadloze hotspot-programma van 3Com. Op deze manier worden de billing en authenticatiegateways- en software van de nieuwe partners, gecombineerd met 3Com’s draadloze access points, Power over Ethernet technologie en beveiligingsapparatuur, om openbare draadloze LAN’s, beter bekend als “hotspots”, te bouwen.
“De twee belangrijkste aspecten waarmee hotels, vliegvelden, cafés, treinstations en andere openbare gelegenheden rekening moeten houden voordat ze een draadloze hotspot kiezen en installeren, zijn de interoperabiliteit en betrouwbaarheid van álle onderdelen van de oplossingen,” zegt Aaron Vance, senior analyst bij Synergy Research Group. “Als de interoperabiliteit en de betrouwbaarheid zijn geverifieerd bij alle partners, verloopt de systeemintegratie eenvoudiger. Draadloze hotspots hoeven niet gecompliceerd te zijn en omdat het steeds eenvoudiger wordt om ze efficiënt te integreren, betekent dit nieuwe inkomsten voor bedrijven. Bovendien helpen ze de customer-experience te verbeteren doordat klanten, terwijl ze op hun vlucht wachten, gebruik kunnen maken van een draadloze hotspot.”

Het 3Com draadloze Access Point 7250 kan bijvoorbeeld afgesloten worden om diefstal te voorkomen, ondersteunt Power over Ethernet en maakt verbinding mogelijk met afneembare antennes voor een flexibel bereik. We hebben in onze nieuwste firmware specifieke hotspot-functies toegevoegd, zoals ondersteuning voor meerdere VLAN’s (tot maximaal 32 per radio), meerdere SSID’s (tot maximaal 32 per radio module), SSID en VLAN mapping. Daardoor kunnen klanten meerdere virtuele WLAN’s op één enkel access point ondersteunen, hetgeen ideaal is voor het gebruik van hotspot-installaties.”
De draadloze oplossingen van 3Com zijn niet alleen geschikt voor enterprise-toepassingen of MKB-bedrijven, ook worden ze wereldwijd gebruikt voor andere hotspot-toepassingen. Zo werd er op het bekende tennistoernooi Wimbledon en tijdens het Edinburgh Festival in de UK gebruik gemaakt van 3Com-oplossingen om de connectiviteit te garanderen.
