BT SIGNS EUR151 MILLION CONTRACT WITH THE BANK OF IRELAND GROUP
BT today announced the signing of a seven year contract to manage the Bank of Ireland's networks. Securing this is ground-breaking for BT outside the UK, and represents one of the most significant contracts ever signed in this sector in Ireland.
The scope of the contract comprises all the bank's data, voice, internet and disaster recovery requirements. A small number of networks employees will transition from Bank of Ireland to the BT team as part of the deal.
Bill Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of BT's Irish operation Esat BT commented, "We are absolutely delighted to have been selected as a strategic technology partner to the Bank of Ireland. Awarding a contract of this scale to Esat BT is a clear endorsement of our credentials and capabilities in the complex field of managed solutions."
Cyril Dunne, Group Chief Information Officer, Bank of Ireland added, "This partnership builds on the successful existing relationship between ourselves and Esat BT, and gives the Group access to a tremendous range of capabilities in the fast-changing technology arena. It is a key platform in our strategy of developing a world-class infrastructure, whilst actively managing our cost base."
This contract is part of a wider outsource of the bank's internal IT infrastructure involving HP. BT and HP will work in close collaboration to implement the seven year plan, leveraging the benefits of technology for all three parties.
BT will focus on the standardisation of technologies across the Bank of Ireland Group, and the deployment of cutting edge data technology like MPLS and IP Telephony. BT added that these measures will improve the bank's technology platforms while also lowering costs. This will ultimately improve the bank's ability to service its customer base and respond quickly to changing market conditions.
