Micro Focus, toonaangevend speler in de markt voor COBOL applicatie-ontwikkelsoftware en -deployment-software heeft Mike Gilbert aangesteld als Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. In deze functie wordt hij verantwoordelijk voor het ontwikkelen en uitvoeren van de wereldwijde marketingstrategie. Gilbert heeft in de afgelopen jaren diverse functies bekleed binnen Micro Focus, hij heeft onder andere leiding gegeven aan het team dat de eerste object-georiënteerde Cobol-compiler heeft gemaakt.
Voordat Gilbert bij Micro Focus in dienst trad werkte hij o.a. als onderzoeksleider van een team dat onderzoek deed voor de Britse overheid naar de veiligheid binnen kerncentrales en was hij Development Manager bij Michael Jackson Systems Ltd.

MICRO FOCUS APPOINTS NEW VP MARKETING TO DRIVE FUTURE VALUE FROM LEGACY ASSETS
NEWBURY, United Kingdom and ROCKVILLE, Md., March 8, 2004 - Micro Focus International Ltd. (Micro Focus®), the leading provider of COBOL application development and deployment tools, has announced the appointment of Mike Gilbert, PhD as vice president of worldwide marketing. Gilbert joins the executive team with full responsibility for setting the marketing strategy and product marketing efforts worldwide. Prior to this, Gilbert was director of product strategy, a role that he has retained with his expanded duties.
Gilbert has a long-standing track record of growing and establishing Micro Focus as the industry standard for COBOL development and providing strategic leadership around sales, marketing, messaging, alliances/partnerships and support. Gilbert joined the development group of Micro Focus in 1984, and among other innovations, led the team that built the first Object Oriented COBOL compiler. Gilbert has also spent time as a customer services consultant at Micro Focus, and with the Product Management team. Since then he has held leadership positions in Micro Focus, serving as a critical element of the company's international growth.
Previously, Gilbert led research into programmed nuclear plant safety systems at a UK government research organisation. Gilbert also worked as development manager with Michael Jackson Systems Ltd., a software development methodology company. Gilbert holds an undergraduate degree in Physics and Electronics from Manchester University, a Certificate in Education from York University, and a doctorate in Applied Physics from Cambridge Uniiversity.
