Fujitsu Siemens Computers extends its mid-tier storage offering with next-generation FibreCAT CX
Next-generation systems deliver higher performance at similar price
Munich/Germany, February 11, 2004 - Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Europe's leading IT company, is now offering a complete new range of next-generation networked storage systems. The FibreCAT CX series supports a larger number of end-users than the existing models and delivers at the same time more power, functionality and scalability.
The next-generation FibreCAT CX300, CX500 and CX700 systems not only provide exceptional value for money and the best software capabilities in the mid-tier market (meaning the mid-range storage market), but also exceptional investment protection. Fujitsu Siemens Computers will also supply improved software for data replication and backup and recovery, as well as SnapView with SIME, an enhanced integration module for Microsoft environments.
The new FibreCAT CX systems, designed by EMC Corporation, provide cost-effective solutions for the increasing number of customers deploying mid-tier storage as part of their storage strategy. In addition, this next-generation technology improves performance and data protection while leveraging existing hardware, software and training.

Next-Generation FibreCAT CX series
As the leading offering for mid-tier networked storage, FibreCAT continues to provide the broadest range of capabilities while maintaining a clear upgrade path and unique compatibility between the current and previous generations of FibreCAT CX systems. The next-generation FibreCAT CX series
includes:
* FibreCAT CX300 - the new entry-level model in the CX series is ideal for workgroup environments that require full SAN (Storage Attached Network) functionality in a small package. The FibreCAT CX300 delivers full support for major operating systems, including UNIX (Solaris), Windows and Linux.
The CX300 is a compatible upgrade from the previous generation CX200.
* FibreCAT CX500 - designed for departmental applications that require increased capacity and performance as well as local and remote replication.
The FibreCAT CX500 offers twice the capacity of the CX400 and is also a compatible upgrade from its forerunner model.
* FibreCAT CX700 - aimed at data center applications, it is the most powerful mid-tier storage array available today. It supports 8 back-end Fibre Channel ports, enabling enhanced linear performance scaling and up to 240 drives. The FibreCAT CX700 is a compatible upgrade from the FibreCAT CX600.
All current and previous FibreCAT CX models can now support 73GB 15,000 RPM Fibre Channel drives, providing an up to 50 per cent boost in performance.
The new FibreCAT CX systems continue to deliver the exclusive ability to mix and match both Fibre Channel and ATA disk technology within the same system, helping users realize a wide service level range in tiered storage environments.
New Replication Functionality
Today, Fujitsu Siemens Computers also announced two new replication software capabilities that help FibreCAT customers lower costs, extend distances and increase the frequency of local and remote replications. This new functionality widens a software range that is already the broadest in the mid-tier storage industry. It includes:
SAN Copy software has been enhanced to offer incremental point-in-time copy functions, allowing customers to reduce transmission costs while increasing the frequency of data replication. This innovative, array-based data movement software can be used to transfer information between EMC and non-EMC systems. New SAN Copy support for Sun and IBM arrays has been added to existing support for HPQ and EMC arrays.
New Microsoft Integration
In addition, Fujitsu Siemens Computers revealed an enhanced integration module for local replication in Microsoft environments: SnapView Integration for Microsoft Exchange (SIME). This software module allows users to take advantage of the benefits of local SnapView replication with a simple and user-friendly graphical interface. All software enhancements are available for currently and previously supported FibreCAT CX generations.
