(OCR) announced today that it has released a new version of IRISPdf a professional solution for the conversion of paper documents into fully searchable PDF in color, grayscale or B&W.
IRISPdf is now available in two versions packaged as separated products:
IRISPdf 2 for KODAK Capture Software (KCS) and IRISPdf 2 Server. An Asian Add-on module is also available for the conversion to PDF in 4 asian
languages: Japanese, Korean, Chinese and simplified Chinese.
IRISPdf for KCS is a high-speed production OCR solution for processing of large amounts of documents. This software is used as a batch output format of KODAK Capture Software, the high-speed scanning solution of Kodak. KCS will generate the structured index while IRISPdf will generate the full-text index allowing easy retrieval when stored in your Document Management System.
IRISPdf for KCS can be installed on several computers connected to a network. You scan at rated speed with one or several computers and you recognize the text with one or several other computers.
IRISPdf for KCS is very easy to set up. Once installed and configured, KCS and IRISPdf are just one and the same application.
The IRISPdf process is done in three steps:
IRISPdf Server is a stand-alone application that can be installed on one central computer and used by many users. All you need is to store your images in a specific folder and let IRSIPdf do the recognition for you.
This version is completely open for integration. It can indeed be called at the command line and it will run any executable for importing in your Document Management System.
Here are some of the new features common to both versions of IRISPdf 2:
New output formats
IRISPdf is now offering 5 output formats: PDF Image+Text, PDF Text, PDF Image, RTF and Unicode Text Smoothening of color image A special filter can now be applied on color images, allowing to smoothen color images that do contain too sharp transition. This special filter can be activated for some types of Kodak scanners or documents to give optimal recognition results.
Export API
After each process, you can call whatever executable program you have developed to meet your specific needs.
Partial recognition of document. You recognize only the first pages containing important information and keep the others as images. This will speed up the process.
Optimal Binarization
1. Select the settings 2. Scan with KCS 3. Recognize with IRISPdf Using I.R.I.S. ClearviewTM technology, a proprietary powerful Dynamic Thresholding Technology of I.R.I.S. you generate PDFs in with optimal B&W images from color scanned images.
Specific to IRISPdf 2 for KCS is:
New index file
The index file containing all the index information coming from KCS is now in XML format and in KCS format for integration in your document management system.
Document naming based on index field
Output document naming can now be automatic or based on a certain KODAK Capture Software index value.
Specific to IRISPdf 2 Server is
Load image files from folders
Scan all your documents into a shared folder and launch the recognition on this folder with IRISPdf 2 Server. If you have subfolders, they will also be processed.
Import PDF files
IRISPdf 2 Server is able to convert even read-only PDF into editable text even when they are PDF Image.
Index file in XML format
A list of the processed images and the associated created files is available in XML format as a summary.
Command line API
This solution can easily be integrated with any scanning application as it contains a API i.e. you can call it at the command line.
