3 March, 2003 - Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a leader in enterprise infrastructure software and services, today announced that CitrixÒ MetaFrame XPÔ server has won 5.6 million users since it began shipping two years ago, about half coming from upgrades from previous versions of MetaFrame® and the other half consisting of new users. This rapid influx of new users has raised Citrix's user total to nearly 50 million at more than 120,000 enterprise organisations around the world, confirming Citrix as the global leader in information access and MetaFrame software as the de facto enterprise standard for server-based computing.
"Since we launched MetaFrame XP two years ago, we've activated a Concurrent User License Pack at the equivalent of one every 11 seconds," said Russ Naples, vice president and general manager of Citrix's client server business unit. "Concurrent licensing typically expands the number of users capable of accessing the server farm by a multiple of four, this means that a new MetaFrame XP end user is enabled every 2.75 seconds. Our customers see the benefits of MetaFrame XP in reducing the cost and complexity of corporate computing by enabling secure access to applications and information from anywhere, with any device, over any network, and we plan to continue to innovate and expand the value of MetaFrame even further."*
The centralised management capabilities of MetaFrame XP allow organisations to simplify their infrastructures by providing scalability - one centrally managed server farm can expand to support up to 100,000 users on 1,000 servers. The server's load balancing capability helps ensure superior application performance and near-zero server downtime, resulting in user productivity and business continuity. In addition, MetaFrame XP works with more than 20 computing platforms including a variety of Windows®, DOS, Macintosh® and UNIX® clients, delivering true "anywhere, any device" support.
In addition, through a Web interface, organisations can integrate any existing client/server application into a standard Web browser instantly, without rewriting code. For organisations that are beginning to juggle traditional applications and Web applications, MetaFrame XP offers a solution that provides users with access to both from a central location.
Furthermore, the secure gateway component provides a key security advantage to MetaFrame XP at a cost that is much lower than access alternatives, such as a virtual private network (VPN). The secure gateway component offers SSL 128-bit encryption, which helps secure all MetaFrame traffic travelling across the network. This enables users at unconfigured desktops, such as an Internet café, to access their applications within the security confines of a MetaFrame session. The most recent version of MetaFrame also supports smart card authentication technologies, providing an additional layer of security.
*Estimates four concurrent users for every concurrent user license sold.
