SAN JOSE, Calif., December 23, 2002 -- Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), for more than two decades the company behind the global software standard at the core of billions of PC systems and connected digital devices, has entered an agreement with Digital Electronics Corp. to supply Phoenix FirstWareTM and Phoenix FirstBIOSTM for Digital’s built-in computers, typically used in industrial settings. The model PS-2000B will be the first built-in computer to use FirstWare.
“Having Phoenix platforms in our computers is a great advantage because it allows us to deliver FirstWare RecoverTM for system recovery,” said Tamaki Miyazaki, Officer, Development Division, of Digital. “It means our customers no longer need USB CD drives or other peripherals when restoring their hard drives. This is especially important for people who are out in the field and may not have their CDs available.”
Phoenix cMETM , the Core Management Environment, incorporates a range of products including FirstBIOS and FirstWare, which are built into the device, where they’re safe from hackers, viruses and other attacks. Phoenix FirstBIOS supports key computer and device functions. Phoenix FirstWare is a product family that allows people to restore the system, diagnose problems, access stored software, and connect to the Internet all from the BIOS. FirstWare is fully functional even when the Operating System (OS) has crashed.
