SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 19 - Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), a
leading provider of network security and availability solutions, today
announced that the United States General Services Administration (GSA), a
centralized federal procurement and property management agency, has
awarded McAfee(R) Security a contract to deploy its suite of anti-virus
and security solutions to more than 14,000 of the agency's employees.
The selection of McAfee Security as the preferred anti-virus software
provider for GSA follows the recently announced Defense Information
Systems Agency (DISA) contract award, and further demonstrates the
leadership role Network Associates plays in securing the Federal
Government's networks. Network Associates recently created the Government,
Healthcare and Education division, which focuses on delivering targeted
security solutions to the government and public sectors.
Under the terms of the agreement with GSA, McAfee Security will be the
preferred anti-virus software provider with its Active Virus Defense(R)
suite, a multi-tiered security solution that includes VirusScan(R) desktop
protection, NetShield(R) software for file servers, GroupShield(TM)
groupware protection and WebShield(R) software for Internet gateway
protection.
The Active Virus Defense suite is centrally managed by McAfee's
one-of-a-kind ePolicy Orchestrator management console, which enables GSA's
IT administrators to monitor and manage McAfee anti-virus, as well as
Symantec's desktop and server anti-virus products, from a single server
across any size organization. The technology also provides comprehensive
policy management, detailed graphical reporting, and rapid software
deployment, and can distribute the latest virus definition updates to
hundreds of thousands of systems in a matter of minutes.
