4th November, 2002 - Today at Citrix iForum(tm) 2002 (www.citrixiforum.com), Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a global leader in virtual workplace software and services, is previewing a new real-time collaboration product code-named Project "Pearl." Available through Citrix's Technology Preview programme, Project Pearl will allow dispersed employees or workgroups using Citrix® MetaFrame XP(tm) for Windows® application server software to share access to any published application, enabling secure, real-time collaboration on documents. With this new product, Citrix will offer customers a simple and effective way to boost employee productivity, while giving workgroups the tools they need to maximise valuable resources and optimising meeting productivity. Project Pearl is scheduled for general availability in the first half of 2003.
Project Pearl expands on existing MetaFrame® technology by incorporating an interface to facilitate user collaboration. With simple set-up and minimal configuration, Project Pearl will integrate tightly with Citrix MetaFrame XP software, giving customers sharing capabilities for all of their business applications. MetaFrame XP is the most powerful platform for application delivery and management designed for the Internet and Microsoft's advanced Windows platforms. Project Pearl can also be leveraged with NFuse® Elite and NFuse Classic to run applications and facilitate collaboration in a portal setting.
Project Pearl will offer collaboration capabilities for any Citrix MetaFrame XP published application such as Microsoft Visio, Project, and Excel. For example, end users will be able to share documents among remote meeting participants, and quickly and easily schedule conference calls. As a result, a typical phone call can be turned into an interactive, productive meeting.
Another benefit of Project Pearl is its ability to improve an organisation's return on existing IT investments. With Project Pearl, IT departments will be able to take advantage of their current skill sets and support contracts without investing in new servers or IT infrastructure. In addition, since users are already familiar with the features of Citrix MetaFrame XP and the published applications they wish to share, they will be well-equipped to take advantage of the offering without being required to learn another new application.
"Project Pearl is yet another way Citrix is helping ensure that remote workers take full advantage of the virtual workplace," said Russ Naples, vice president and general manager of Citrix's client/server business unit. "With this new offering, our customers will now have the ability to share documents and develop them together in real time to boost productivity and expedite decision-making."
MetaFrame XP customers interested in participating in the Technology Preview for Project Pearl may email Citrix at pearl_preview@citrix.com for programme details.
