(Nasdaq: CTXS), today announced that the Provinciale Hogeschool Limburg (PHL), a leading Belgian business school, is using its MetaFrame application server software and NFuse Classic access portal software to enable the school’s advanced Web and wireless computing environment. PHL has introduced its own Web portal to provide students with simplified access to a wealth of digital resources including electronic libraries, reference materials, and a wide range of applications. In addition, the use of Citrix software has extended the classroom and library environment by supporting wirelessly connected laptops that enable students to access the PHL portal from anywhere on the school’s three campuses.
Provinciale Hogeschool Limburg is taking a pioneering role within the education sector by using the leading enterprise solutions to advance its
services to students. Citrix software has also enabled the school to
significantly improve the maintenance routines for its computing environment. With Citrix MetaFrame XP™e application server software, the school has centralised its entire IT environment so that applications do not have to be installed on individual computing devices to provide students with access to information critical for their studies. Within minutes of being installed on the MetaFrame server, all applications can be accessed from any device equipped to login to the school’s network.
The school also has avoided the need to re-develop applications for access via the Web by using Citrix NFuse® Classic access portal software which makes it possible to publish Web, Windows- based and legacy applications in a Web-browser.
To add to its 700 networked PCs, the PHL has introduced an initial 3,500 laptops for students to access the school portal from anywhere on the campus via a wireless network. Using Citrix’ solutions, applications are processed on the school’s powerful MetaFrame servers, ensuring fast application performance when the students access the PHL portal via the wireless network or dial into the school’s network either from home or any other remote location.
