SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 17 -- Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), a leading provider of network security and availability solutions, today announced that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), the preferred provider of integrated information solutions to U. S. Department of Defense (DOD) users, has awarded Network Associates a five- year contract to deploy its McAfee Security suite of anti-virus and security solutions directly to more than three million DOD users.
Under the terms of the contract, Network Associates will provide DOD users with multi-tiered protection at all four layers of the network by deploying McAfee Security's award-winning VirusScan software for complete desktop protection, NetShield software for file server protection, GroupShield software for e-mail servers and WebShield software for Internet gateway protection. DISA has also selected McAfee VirusScan Wireless, one of the first anti-virus products to protect all users from viruses locally on the handheld device and during synchronization with the PC.
The selection of Network Associates under contract number DCA100-02-C-4046 will replace the current DOD Anti-Virus Software Initiative (EASI) license agreement. Unlike the previous EASI license agreement, the new contract offers DOD home users comprehensive coverage, including desktop firewall protection.
Additionally, DISA has contracted Network Associates to provide McAfee Security's one-of-a-kind ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) management console. ePolicy Orchestrator enables IT administrators to monitor and manage McAfee anti-virus, as well as other vendors' desktop and server anti-virus products, from a single server across any size organization. The technology can also distribute the latest virus definition updates to hundreds of thousands of systems in a matter of minutes.

The contract agreement with DISA underscores Network Associates' security leadership in the Federal government. In a related upcoming announcement, the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board will unveil the White House National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace. The strategy will include recommendations to government and industry leaders to protect consumers, businesses, industry sectors and the nation as a whole.
