Amsterdam, 10 mei 2019 – Deutsche Bank, de grootste bank van Duitsland, ondersteunt zijn Fabric-applicatieplatform met open hybride cloudtechnologieën van Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), leverancier van opensourceoplossingen. Fabric is een belangrijk onderdeel van de digitale transformatie-strategie van de Deutsche Bank en fungeert als een geautomatiseerd, self-service hybride cloudplatform. Het platform helpt applicatieteams om applicaties sneller en efficiënter te ontwikkelen, te leveren en te schalen.
Deutsche Bank is een van de grootste banken ter wereld. De bank voert elke dag circa 13 miljoen betalingen met een totale waarde van 1,1 biljoen euro uit en verwerkt per dag in totaal 500 miljard euro aan transacties. In een competitieve markt als de internationale financiële dienstverlening is het sneller en efficiënter aanbieden van flexibele, on-demand en always-on diensten aan klanten essentieel. Ontwikkelingsmethoden voor cloud-native applicaties, zoals containers, microservices en DevOps, zijn zeer geschikt voor het ondersteuning van die diensten.
Deutsche Bank heeft als doel de infrastructuur te moderniseren, de flexibiliteit en efficiëntie te vergroten en de time-to-market te versnellen. Om die doelstellingen te behalen, bouwde de bank Fabric. Fabric is een next-generation platform dat zijn applicatieteams een ‘Everything-as-a-Service’-ervaring biedt bij het bouwen en implementeren van nieuwe applicaties binnen de infrastructuur van de bank.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux is al jaren het belangrijkste platform van de bank. Het biedt een, gemeenschappelijke basis voor workloads on-premises en in de publieke cloud. Voor Fabric besloot Deutsche Bank Red Hat’s cloud-native stack te gebruiken in combinatie met Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. De bank implementeerde Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform op Microsoft Azure als onderdeel van een veilig, nieuw hybride cloudplatform voor het bouwen, hosten en beheren van bankapplicaties. Dankzij de implementatie van dit platform – het meest uitgebreide enterprise-Kubernetesplatform in de branche – op Microsoft Azure profiteren IT-teams van cloudresources op grote schaal, met een standaard en consistent PaaS-first model.
Ook implementeerde de bank OpenShift op zijn on-premise-infrastructuur. Deutsche Bank kan hierdoor technologieën die al in productie zijn, blijven gebruiken en profiteren van een van de belangrijkste waardeproposities van OpenShift: een platform voor applicaties binnen hybride cloudomgevingen, van het datacenter tot meerdere public clouds. Zowel Red Hat Enterprise Linux als OpenShift Container Platform zijn geïmplementeerd en te onderhouden met Red Hat Ansible Tower, een framework dat IT op grote schaal automatiseert en standaardiseert.
Momenteel ondersteunt Fabric 6.000 interne gebruikers verspreid over 4.000 projecten op vijftien unieke computing-omgevingen, en meer dan 10.000 eindgebruikers wereldwijd. De bank behaalde zijn doelstelling voor het vergroten van zijn operationele efficiëntie en draait nu meer dan veertig procent van zijn workloads op vijf procent van zijn totale infrastructuur. Daarnaast duurt het nu slechts weken in plaats van maanden om ideeën van proof-of-concept naar productie te verplaatsen.
