Singapore, 31 July 2002 - CMG's Wireless Data Solution division, the global leader in mobile messaging solutions, and Globe Telecom, Philippines' fastest growing telecommunications company, today announce the launch of Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) in the Philippines. Globe Telecom is the first company to provide MMS in the Philippines.
CMG's Multimedia Messaging Service Centre (MMSC) will allow Globe to offer its clients a rich suite of multimedia mobile service that includes sending and receiving photographs, images, animations, sound and text. The new service, which will begin in July 2002, is anticipated to be well-received in the Philippines. Here, short messaging service (SMS) has become part of everyday life and Globe Telecom has already proven to be very successful in this arena.
According to an Ovum survey conducted this year, annual consumer revenues from multimedia messaging services are set to reach around US$70 billion worldwide in 2007. Around US$31 billion will come from person-to-person messaging, while US$39 billion will come from machine-to-person messaging.
"With increasing competition between operators to enhance profits and maximize current infrastructure investment, the need to tap into new and readily-available technology has become necessary for survival in this market," commented Nicanor Santiago of Globe Telecom. "As MMS creates a limitless set of new opportunities for more versatile and advanced multimedia interactivity for the consumer, Globe is certain that the new service will create a steady and growing revenue stream for the company," continued Santiago.
"CMG has been working with Globe Telecom for the last four years, when Globe first implemented CMG's Short Message Service Centre (SMSC) in 1999. We are pleased to continue working with Globe in launching MMS today. We are confident that the new service will lend great competitive advantage to Globe's already strong presence in the Philippines," said Boudewijn Pesch, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, CMG Wireless Data Solutions.
