Maarssen, July 23, 2002 - Fujitsu Siemens Computers announced the immediate availability of new powerful SPARC64 IV GP? processors for their Solaris/SPARC based PRIMEPOWER servers. This represents a 100 per cent system performance improvement over the life of the servers and provides a 15 per cent boost over the most recent 675-MHz processor systems. Once again Fujitsu Siemens Computers has delivered on its investment protection promise, to ensure the ever higher levels of performance and availability required by today's most demanding Business Critical Computing applications.
PRIMEPOWER enterprise class servers (models 800, 1000 and 2000) will be available with 788 MHz processors, while PRIMEPOWER mid-range and entry level servers will be available with 700 MHz (PRIMEPOWER 200 and 400) and 810 MHz processors in the models 650 and 850. Existing customers can take advantage of these improvements through their system's in-built ability to add capacity. This makes it easy for them to grow their installations based on already proven technology. Fujitsu Siemens Computers' ease of upgradeability also supports the company's mission to enable adaptive enterprises to have a flexible IT infrastructure. While the enhanced performance gives customers the ability to maximize their return on investment (ROI), by ensuring their IT resource investment protection.
The PRIMEPOWER server family offers a number of unique features. Customers can run multiple versions of the Solaris environment on the same server to help protect their investment in business application software. PRIMEPOWER enterprise class servers also enable multiple processor speeds to operate in the same system. With PRIMEPOWER's excellent scalability, smooth and linear performance curve, highly reliability design providing longevity, additional performance can be simply achieved just by adding processors. No need to throw away previous processors either, the ability to partition, as well as mix processor speeds means additional workloads can be accommodated allowing business to grow at minimal additional cost.
Because PRIMEPOWER servers provide up to 128 processors, they offer unmatched adaptability and investment safekeeping for businesses that want long-term advantage and a rapid return on their initial expenditure. This is the greatest scalability available in today's marketplace. The boost in performance to 810/788/700 MHz means plenty of new headroom for growth; making it one of the best choices all round for customers looking to maximize their business value from Solaris servers.
Even more value with PRIMECLUSTER
To extend the already uncommon value of PRIMEPOWER servers, customers achieve extra advantage with PRIMCLUSTER software for multi-server environments. The updated full-function version of PRIMECLUSTER consists of a broad range of services including: a highly sophisticated fail-over manager, cluster-wide data management, protection from network errors, sets of wizard tools to take the pain out of implementation, support to run parallel databases (already Oracle 9i RAC-certified) and dynamic load balancing.
PRIMECLUSTER has been developed with the Business Critical Computing needs of enterprises in mind and aims to redefine availability to include not only the uptime of a server, but focuses on the entire hardware infrastructure including the network and the storage devices. In particular, a variety of mechanisms are provided to implement high availability and scalability on any layer of today's multi-tier enterprise applications.
