Amsterdam, 1 augustus 2017 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), leverancier van opensourceoplossingen, neemt technologie over van Permabit Technology Corporation, een leverancier van software voor data-deduplicatie, datacompressie en thin provisioning. Door Red Hat Enterprise Linux uit te breiden met de technologie van Permabit kan Red Hat bedrijven beter helpen met hun digitale transformatie door ze efficiëntere opslagmogelijkheden te bieden.
Steeds meer bedrijven kiezen voor digitale technologieën als Linux-containers en cloud computing om hun efficiëntie te verbeteren. Om deze
services te laten draaien en de data op te slaan, hebben ze echter meer nodig dan wat door traditionele storagetechnologieën wordt geboden. Efficiënte opslag is een belangrijk onderdeel om aan die behoeften te voldoen, met name vanwege de opkomst van hyperconverged infrastructuur (HCI) die storage en compute samenvoegt op een enkele x86-server. Zakelijke opensourceoplossingen kunnen helpen bij de storage-uitdagingen die door deze digitaal transformatieve technologieën worden opgelegd. Dit is mogelijk door software te gebruiken die de voor applicaties beschikbare opslagruimte kan vergroten zonder dat de hoeveelheid fysieke opslagruimte vergroot hoeft te worden.
Met de technologie van Permabit kan Red Hat nu krachtige data-deduplicatie- en compressiemogelijkheden opnemen in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Deze zullen ook de mogelijkheden van Red Hat's hybride cloud- en opslagtechnologie verbeteren, waaronder het Red Hat OpenStack Platform, het Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform en Red Hat Storage. Red Hat is verder van plan om de technologie van Permabit open source te maken, wat in lijn is met de toewijding om oplossingen en upstream-first innovatie te leveren die volledig open source zijn. Klanten kunnen hierdoor een enkel, ondersteund en volledig open platform gebruiken om hun storage-efficiëntie te verbeteren, zonder afhankelijk te zijn van heterogene tools of aangepaste en slecht ondersteunde besturingssystemen.
De transactie heeft naar verwachting geen invloed op
Red Hat’s guidance voor het tweede kwartaal dat afloopt op 31 augustus 2017 of het boekjaar dat eindigt op 28 februari 2018.
