(NYSE: RHT), leverancier van opensourceoplossingen, introduceert de nieuwe versie van Red Hat OpenShift Online, het open source, container-native, multi-tenant cloudplatform. Red Hat OpenShift Online is net als het Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform gebaseerd op Linux-containers en Kubernetes en biedt ontwikkelaars de mogelijkheid om snel en makkelijk cloud-native applicaties te bouwen, implementeren en schalen in een publieke cloudomgeving.
OpenShift Online host sinds de introductie in 2011 meer dan drie miljoen applicaties, gebouwd door honderdduizenden ontwikkelaars, startups, onderwijsinstellingen, ISV’s en bedrijven wereldwijd. Dit maakt het tot een van de meest populaire ontwikkelplatformen om apps voor de publieke cloud te bouwen.
Met OpenShift Online kunnen ontwikkelaars cloud-native apps bouwen op een cloud-gebaseerd containerplatform zonder zich zorgen te hoeven maken over de inherente complexiteit van het implementeren, beheren en schalen van applicaties. Dankzij deze oplossing van Red Hat voor de publieke cloud kunnen ontwikkelaars zich richten op het schrijven van de code, ‘prototyping’ van nieuwe functies of het creëren van nieuwe ideeën, en dit alles in een self-service-omgeving.
OpenShift is een platform dat meerdere talen ondersteunt, waaronder Java, Node.js, .NET, Ruby, Python en PHP. Het biedt geoptimaliseerde workflows die ontwikkelaars helpen bij het configureren en implementeren van applicaties in diverse frameworks, waaronder Spring Boot, Eclipse Vert.x, Node.js en Red Hat JBoss Middleware. Daarnaast helpt het om een project makkelijker op te starten en sneller te programmeren.
Red Hat OpenShift Online biedt nieuwe mogelijkheden, waaronder:
- Vereenvoudigde implementatie – Nieuw one-click en ‘Git push’ command deployment-mogelijkheden zijn toegevoegd om de applicatie-provisioning en deployment voor ontwikkelaars en systeembeheerders te stroomlijnen, zodat ze geen volledige controle over de levenscyclus nodig hebben.
- Automatisch schalen – Cloud-elasticiteit wordt mogelijk gemaakt door het automatisch schalen van applicaties. Hierdoor is geen handmatige interventie van ‘operations’ nodig zodra een toename in de applicatiebelasting meer applicatie-instances vereist.
- S2I builds – Gebruik het source-to-image (S2I) framework om reproduceerbare container-images te bouwen. Hierdoor hebben ontwikkelaars geen kennis van docker nodig, en hoeven ze de images niet zelf aan te maken en te beheren. Dit heeft tot gevolg dat er minder fouten gemaakt worden en ontwikkelaars zich kunnen concentreren op het maken van de applicatie in een taal naar keuze.
- IDE-integratie – Het platform biedt ingebouwde integratie met populaire geïntegreerde ontwikkelomgevingen (IDE’s), waaronder Eclipse, Red Hat JBoss Developer Studio en Titanium Studio.
- Middleware services – Red Hat OpenShift Application Services bieden de krachtige mogelijkheden van producten uit het Red Hat JBoss Middleware-portfolio als cloud-gebaseerde diensten aan op OpenShift. Deze diensten kunnen door ontwikkelaars gebruikt worden om applicaties te bouwen, te integreren met andere systemen, te orkestreren door regels en processen te gebruiken en vervolgens te implementeren in hybride omgevingen.

Red Hat OpenShift Online is nu beschikbaar in twee varianten:
- Starter: een gratis dienst met 1 GB geheugen en 1 GB opslagruimte voor onbeperkt gebruik.
- Pro: Een betaalde dienst die extra middelen voor $25 per maand per gigabyte geheugen of opslag biedt. Deze optie is in bijna 200 landen beschikbaar en OpenShift Pro bevat ook gratis Basic Support voor een beperkte periode.
