SAN FRANCISCO (Burton Group Catalyst Conference 2002) - July 16, 2002 - Novell, Inc., the leading provider of Net business solutions, today unveiled the company's Liberty Alliance-compliant identity management solution and announced plans to deliver the solution to customers by the end of 2002. The new solution, codenamed Saturn, uses the Liberty Alliance version 1.0 specifications to exchange identity information between companies, giving users single sign-on between Web sites via open standards. Equally important, the solution allows the users themselves to decide whether their identities will be federated from one Web site to another. By enabling standards-based single sign-on, Saturn will allow companies to build more profitable, secure partnerships, more enduring relationships with customers and more productive employees. Saturn is being demonstrated here at the Burton Group's Catalyst Conference 2002.
Novell also plans to implement the Liberty Alliance specifications in its
Novell(r) iChain(r) Web security solution. As a proxy-based appliance, iChain can sit in front of Web servers and dynamically "Liberty-enable" those Web sites - without requiring any software on the servers themselves. The Liberty Alliance-compliant version of iChain will also be available before the end of the year.

Unlike competing proposed offerings, such as Microsoft's TrustBridge that is designed primarily for Microsoft Windows* environments, Saturn will use the Liberty specifications to be open to all platforms and environments, proving a valuable extension of Novell's one Net vision."
Novell's plans are part of today's launch by the Liberty Alliance Project of its version 1.0 specifications, the first set of open federated network identity specifications from the cross-industry consortium that was formed less than a year ago.
