SAN FRANCISCO — (June 26, 2002) — Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a global leader in Internet communications, today announced support for IBM zSeries and S/390 mainframes running the Linux operating system. Critical Path has ported and optimized its CP™ Messaging Server and CP™ Presentation Server to IBM's most powerful servers running Linux, enabling large enterprises, carriers and service providers to consolidate messaging from dozens of high-end servers onto a single mainframe supporting millions of users. Such mainframes are widely used in the financial services, banking, insurance, pharmaceutical and telecommunications industries.
Enterprises, carriers and service providers working to reduce costs are turning to server consolidation in an effort to achieve more productivity with less hardware. Additionally, as enterprises deploy extranet services, they are faced with the need to deploy massively scalable email solutions to support their growing user populations. The proven scalability of the CP Messaging Server combined with the proven strengths of IBM zSeries and S/390 servers enable potentially millions of users to be supported on a single machine. In addition, customers will find that the flexibility and openness of CP Messaging Server, CP Presentation Server and Linux will lead to quicker integration with other business applications.
"Large enterprises, which are becoming service providers themselves, and carriers are demanding highly scalable messaging solutions that can reach a vast number of users from a single platform," said Bernard Harguindeguy, chief marketing officer of Critical Path. "The combination of IBM servers running Linux and our highly scalable messaging platform will provide the highest reliability and performance with the lowest total cost-of-ownership (TCO) in the industry."
The Critical Path messaging solution provides Web, wireless and voice access to mail and personal address book information, with support from desktop clients such as Microsoft Outlook® as well. In addition, it is unique in its ability to be integrated with application servers, enabling messaging services to be extended to customers and partners through extranets and enterprise portals. By consolidating hardware and by running multiple applications on a single server, customers can reduce their overhead and simplify administration, reducing overall costs. Enterprises can also lower their costs by adding email as an incremental application to CRM or ERP applications running on a single server. Service providers can achieve TCO advantages by consolidating servers, conserving floor space and reducing power consumption.
Critical Path's support for IBM zSeries and S/390 mainframe servers running the Linux operating system will be available in the third quarter.
