Houten, The Netherlands, 27 June 2013 - About eight in ten companies in the Netherlands have at least one mobile business plan. At companies with more than 100 employees, an average 38 percent of employees have mobile business plans, according to the latest research by Telecompaper amongst 312 telecom decision makers/influencers. The 'Bring Your Own Device' trend is also evident at over 30 percent of Dutch companies. This sees employees use their own mobile phones with a SIM from their employer.
Nearly two-thirds (64%) of the companies with more than 100 employees said that mobile telephony is essential or very important for their business continuation. Only 2-3 percent of the companies said a disruption to mobile services would not affect their operations. This excludes companies with less than six employees, among which one in ten said they could continue work without mobile service.
The survey found that most companies are open to switching mobile provider; only 15 percent said they would not change their current provider. Reducing costs is the main motivation for switching. In the past year about a quarter of all companies with 5-20 employees actually changed operator.
Smaller companies have a better understanding of their mobile phone costs than larger ones. Two in five companies with 1-20 employees do not know how much they pay, and this increases to two in three among companies with more than 100 employees. On average businesses spend EUR 40-80 per month on employees with a business mobile contract or SIMs.
The respondents were also questioned about different telecom related policies. 41 percent of the companies with 21-100 employees have no policy regarding the use of messaging apps (such as Whatsapp) for business purposes. In this same segment, however, more companies have a policy concerning reading mail abroad, with over 70 percent having such a policy. Of those with a policy, 68 percent of companies want their employees to wait for WiFi before reading their work mails.
