Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), marktleider in opensourceoplossingen, kondigt vandaag de beschikbaarheid aan van Red Hat Storage Software Appliance, het eerste geïntegreerde product dat
scale-out storage voor ongestructureerde data levert.
Begin oktober nam Red Hat het bedrijf Gluster over, een technologieleverancier van scale-out storage voor open source opslagsystemen. Door die overname heeft Red Hat haar oplossingenportfolio verbreed voor het beheer en opslag van ongestructureerde data. De twee bedrijven delen een visie om open source, betrouwbare, schaalbare en kosteneffectieve technologieën te bieden. Het nieuwe storage team bij Red Hat lanceert inmiddels haar eerste product, de
Red Hat Storage Software Appliance.
Software-only appliance
Red Hat
Storage Software Appliance is gebouwd op GlusterFS 3.2 en Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1. Deze software-only appliance stelt bedrijven in staat om met fysieke opslag om te gaan als een gevirtualiseerde, gestandaardiseerde en schaalbare storage pool. Terwijl het ononderbroken flexibiliteit, prestaties en kwaliteit biedt, die nodig zijn voor succesvolle open source enterprise-omgevingen voor alle on premise en cloud-implementaties.

Voor grote opslag volumes en gemengde workloads
Deze aankondiging kan interessant zijn voor organisaties met grote opslag volumes en gemengde workloads, zoals digitale media bedrijven, content delivery networks, maar ook omgevingen met veel near-line storage, file sharing, back-up en archivering activiteiten. Door het verder toenemen van de digitalisering zullen er nieuwe storage uitdagingen ontstaan, zoals stijgende kosten en het gebrek aan schaalbaarheid. Red Hat Storage Appliance Software probeert met een nieuwe benadering voor het leveren van betrouwbare, high-performance verwerking van ongestructureerde data, op deze nieuwe trend in te spelen.
