Amersfoort, 15 november 2011 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), marktleider in opensourceoplossingen, kondigt vandaag nieuwe mogelijkheden aan voor Java-ontwikkelaars die de OpenShift Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) gebruiken. Dankzij de integratie van nieuwe technologieën biedt OpenShift Java-ontwikkelaars nu een ‘belevenis’ van de code naar de cloud die snel, makkelijk en gratis is.
Met OpenShift biedt Red Hat aantrekkelijke PaaS die gebouwd is op opensourcetechnologieën waarmee ontwikkelaars snel applicaties kunnen ontwikkelen en deployen in de cloud. OpenShift biedt ingebouwde auto-scaling, ondersteunt vele talen, frameworks, middleware en clouds en is gratis beschikbaar. In augustus was Red Hat de eerste die Java EE 6 aanbiedt via PaaS met OpenShift op basis van Red Hat’s JBoss application platform technologie. Vandaag breidt OpenShift zijn Java mogelijkheden uit met de integratie van verschillende technologieën die OpenShift toestaan een volledigere Java levenscyclus voor ontwikkelaars te leveren. Ontwikkelaars kunnen nu hun applicatie in een IDE schrijven, evenals het met OpenShift bouwen, deployen en schalen.
Nieuwe integraties die vandaag worden aangekondigd omvatten:
- Ondersteuning voor Jenkins, dat is gebaseerd op Hudson en OpenShift uitbreidt naar “Build-as-a-Service” waardoor snellere builds in de cloud mogelijk zijn.
- Integratie tussen IDE en de cloud, met de integratie van JBoss Tools en OpenShift kunnen ontwikkelaars hun code makkelijk van het toonaangevende Java IDE naar de cloud brengen. Toekomstige integratie is ook gepland voor JBoss Developer Studio.
- Ondersteuning voor Maven, biedt application dependency resolution als onderdeel van het build proces.
"Met Apache Maven kunnen we open technologie creëren die het bouwproces makkelijker maakt en waardoor ontwikkelaars in staat zijn het complete proces van een ontwikkel inspanning in korte tijd te omvatten", zegt Jason van Zyl, CTO en oprichter van Sonatype en oprichter van het Apache Maven project. "De ondersteuning van Red Hat voor het Maven build management systeem via OpenShift biedt ontwikkelaars extra gemak en efficiëntie zodat ze nu sneller kunnen bouwen en testen in de cloud."
"Voorheen moesten Java-ontwikkelaars alle afhankelijkheden downloaden, alles compileren in een gigantisch Java programmabestand en dan uploaden naar de cloud. Deze nieuwe functionaliteit van OpenShift versnelt de ontwikkel levenscyclus gigantisch", zegt Charlotte Dunlap, Senior Analyst bij Current Analysis.
“Met deze nieuwste updates van het OpenShift platform kunnen ontwikkelaars zich meer richten op hun applicatie in plaats van op de stack”, zegt Mark Little, senior director, Middleware Engineering bij Red Hat. “Nu neemt OpenShift code van uw favoriete IDE, laadt afhankelijkheden, compileert, deploys en schaalt uw applicatie, allemaal in de cloud. De nieuwe IDE gecombineerd met Maven dependency resolutions en Jenkins build automation betekent dat men code kan schrijven en het binnen enkele seconden in de cloud kan zien. Dit is een grote stap vooruit voor de huidige Java-ontwikkelaars.”
