Amersfoort, 1 december 2010 - Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), marktleider in opensourceoplossingen, kondigt de overname aan van Makara, een ontwikkelaar van deployment- en managementoplossingen voor applicaties in de cloud. Makara's technologieën zullen de ontwikkeling van Red Hat's Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) versterken als onderdeel van zijn Cloud Foundations portfolio.
Het in Redwood City, Californië, gevestigde Makara biedt oplossingen waarmee organisaties hun applicaties kunnen inzetten, beheren, monitoren en schalen op zowel privé en publieke clouds. Klanten die problemen ervaren bij het verplaatsen van applicaties naar de cloud en zoeken naar efficiënt beheer, kunnen profiteren van Makara’s oplossing voor het schalen, rightsizing, rollback en monitoren. Red Hat kan door de integratie van JBoss Enterprise Middleware infrastructuur met Makara’s Cloud Application Platform een PaaS-oplossing bieden. Hierdoor kunnen bedrijven hun applicaties sneller naar publieke en privé clouds overzetten met minimale aanpassingen.
‘Cloud Foundations maakt voor klanten en ontwikkelaars een snelle en makkelijke toegang tot de cloud mogelijk. Met de toetreding van Makara streven we naar een verdere vereenvoudiging van de implementatie en het beheer van applicaties’, zegt Paul Cormier, president of Products and Technologies bij Red Hat. ‘Wij verwelkomen het Makara-team en kijken ernaar uit samen te werken en onze PaaS-oplossingen sneller op de markt te brengen.’
Red Hat introduceerde Cloud Foundations in juni 2010 tijdens de Red Hat Summit in Boston. Red Hat is de enige leverancier met een infrastructuur die in staat is een open source flexible cloud stack, met een geïntegreerd besturingssysteem, middleware en virtualisatie te leveren. Red Hat PaaS, op basis van JBoss Enterprise Middleware, stelt enterprises, cloud service providers, ISV’s en Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) aanbieders in staat bestaande en nieuwe applicaties in een brede range van publieke en privé clouds in te zetten. Met Red Hat kunnen enterprises, cloud service providers, ISV’s en SaaS-aanbieders gebruikmaken van hun bestaande vaardigheden zonder applicaties te herschrijven.
‘PaaS is een andere markt aan het worden voor softwareleveranciers die uitstekende enterprise oplossingen in de cloud willen aanbieden’, zegt Rachel Chalmers, research director bij de 451 Group. ‘Dankzij de overname van de cloudtechnologieën die zijn ontworpen door Makara kan Red Hat zijn positie in deze markt verstevigen met oplossingen voor enterprises met deployment-, beheer- en auto-scaling-mogelijkheden.’
Red Hat wil zijn PaaS-oplossing beschikbaar maken als service voor publieke of privé clouds. Het zal ontwikkelaars en organisaties helpen een gehele levenscyclus van applicaties te bouwen, implementeren en beheren.
Vandaag al kunnen grote IT-omgevingen JBoss Enterprise Middleware inzetten in privé clouds door gebruik te maken van Red Hat Consulting in samenwerking met Red Hat-partners. Red Hat biedt een uitgebreid aanbod producten en diensten binnen de gehele applicatielevenscyclus die zijn ontworpen om bestaande of nieuwe applicaties op een kosteneffectieve manier over te zetten naar privé en publieke clouds.
