Amersfoort, 17 september 2010 – Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), marktleider in opensourceoplossingen, kondigt vandaag aan dat Red Hat Virtualization als het belangrijkste virtualisatieplatform wordt ingezet door Qualcomm Incorporated voor zijn productie workloads.
Qualcomm implementeerde Red Hat Enterprise Linux voor het eerst in 2003. In maart 2007 werden ze een early adopter van de virtualisatietechnologie die is geïntegreerd in het Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 platform. De organisatie was ook actief in het Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisatie bètaprogramma in 2009 waar ze prestaties, de schaalbaarheid en dichtheid van de oplossing konden testen. ‘Na de afronding van de formele evaluatie van het Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization portfolio startten we met het gebruik van de oplossing in onze productieomgeving’, aldus Bob Gerling, IT ingenieur bij Qualcomm. ‘Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization was een logische volgende stap in onze technologische samenwerking met Red Hat die voortbouwt op het intensieve gebruik van Red Hat Enterprise Linux en zijn geïntegreerde virtualisatietechnologie.’
Qualcomm zet Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 in als basis besturingssysteem. De geïntegreerde KVM-hypervisor zorgt ervoor dat Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 ook als gast besturingssysteem gebruikt kan worden. ‘Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is nu een van onze standaard virtualisatieplatforms’, aldus Gerling. ‘We kijken er naar uit onze samenwerking met Red Hat voort te zetten aangezien zijn platform organisaties zoals de onze een enterprise open source alternatief biedt op het traditionele virtualisatieaanbod.’
