Amersfoort, 26 augustus 2010 – Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT), marktleider in opensourceoplossingen, kondigt zijn strategie aan omtrent zijn uitgebreide Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) oplossing. Het is een onderdeel van zijn Cloud Foundations, een portfolio die consistentie bevordert tussen enterprise applicaties en de cloud. Red Hat is de enige leverancier met een infrastructuur die in staat is een open source
flexible cloud stack, met een geïntegreerd besturingssysteem, middleware en virtualisatie te leveren. Red Hat PaaS is gebaseerd op JBoss Enterprise Middleware en biedt ISV’s en Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) leveranciers de kans hun bestaande en nieuw te ontwikkelen applicaties in te zetten in privé en publieke clouds.
Red Hat wil de JBoss Enterprise Middleware Open Choice strategie naar de cloud brengen dankzij
flexibele deployment opties en de keuze om frameworks en talen te ontwikkelen. Red Hat's nieuwe generatie PaaS-oplossing vereenvoudigt het ontwikkelen van simpele webapplicaties maar ook van complexe transactionele enterprise applicaties. Daarnaast zal Red Hat PaaS naar verwachting een uitgebreide reference architecture bieden. Met Red Hat PaaS hebben enterprises, cloud service providers, ISV’s en SaaS providers de mogelijkheid hun bestaande kennis te gebruiken zonder applicaties te herschrijven.

Red Hat PaaS gebouwd op JBoss Open Choice
Red Hat zal PaaS als dienst in publieke of privé clouds aanbieden waarmee ontwikkelaars hun applicaties kunnen bouwen, gebruiken en beheren. Red Hat PaaS oplossingen zijn gebaseerd op Red Hat’s JBoss Enterprise Middleware, een productportfolio voor applicatie- en integratiediensten, en Red Hat’s cloud engine voor lifecycle management van applicaties.
Programmeermodellen naar keuze – Red Hat PaaS is gebaseerd op de JBoss Open Choice strategie. Ontwikkelaars zijn hierdoor in staat applicaties te bouwen in hun programmeerraamwerk of taal naar keuze, inclusief: Java EE, POJO, Spring, Seam, Struts, GWT, Groovy en Ruby. JBoss Developer Studio omvat naar verwachting een serie van Eclipse plug-ins.
Portability &interoperabiliteit – JBoss cloud images zullen beschikbaar zijn via een verscheidenheid aan publieke en privé clouds inclusief Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Amazon EC2, Windows Hyper-V en Red Hat's cloud engine. Deze functie is ontworpen om enterprises in staat te stellen bestaande applicaties te migreren naar de cloud zonder ze te herschrijven.
Uitgebreide middleware reference architecture voor PaaS -- Red Hat PaaS biedt een uitgebreide reeks middleware mogelijkheden naast containers, transacties, messaging, datadiensten, regels, presentatie ervaring en integratiediensten.
Gehele applicatie levenscyclus – Red Hat PaaS zal proberen alle diensten te leveren die noodzakelijk zijn voor applicatie lifecycle management.
Optimalisatie van applicatie lifecycle
Ondersteund door Red Hat consultancydiensten en partners kunnen enterprises vanaf nu JBoss Enterprise Middleware in private clouds inzetten. Daarnaast bied Red Hat een uitgebreide reeks diensten aan. Na verloop van tijd zal PaaS uitgebreid worden met test- en QA-diensten, automated elasticity, provisioning, deployment services voor het bouwen van multi-tiered, multi-service applicaties en het beheren van metadata tussen diensten.
