AME Research, the Dutch Financial ICT Research company forecasts a flat revenue trend for business software (ERP+) in 2010. Services and license revenues are still under pressure. Sales of online solutions from the cloud do increase but are not yet substantial. The forecast is based on the results of the Benchmark Report Business Software 2010 which is available in English at
www.ame.nl.
The report benchmarks revenues, profits and returns of 12 global market leaders covering a revenue of €26,7 billion in 2009. Last year their revenue in euro decreased 5,7%, more than mostly forecasted. License revenues plummeted 19% in 2009. Services went down over 7%. Only software related maintenance increased. The fall in license sales will lead to less services in 2010 onwards. Customers hesitate to invest in new solutions and new SaaS revenues replace former license fees.
Investors in the companies recovered from their losses in 2008 with an increase of total shareholder return of 36% in 2009-2010 by the end of the first quarter 2010. In 2010 business software companies with proven SaaS solutions in the Cloud and investments in new strategies may outperform the market. The report discusses the financial results and benchmarks the companies to various financial ratio’s. Oracle outperforms SAP financially. Microsoft is financially strongest, followed by Dutch AFAS and then Oracle. Lawson Software and IBS are in the rear ranks in 2009. The report argues a merger between the two Dutch vendors Exact and Unit4 who are undervalued compared to their leading peers.
