Amersfoort, 16 maart 2010 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), marktleider in opensourceoplossingen, maakt vandaag bekend dat de Symbian Foundation, een wereldwijde non-profitorganisatie opgericht ter bevordering van een open source community rond zijn mobiele software, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) inzet. Red Hat Enterprise Linux biedt een schaalbare en high-performance base voor de cloud gebaseerde website en server van Symbian.
De Symbian Foundation was op zoek naar een betrouwbare, kosteneffectieve opensourceoplossing. De stichting gebruikt Red Hat Enterprise Linux als besturingssysteem voor zijn website developer.symbian.org. Op de site kunnen gebruikers onder andere terecht voor toegangscodes, wiki’s, trainingen en support. De meeste servers van Symbian draaien op Red Hat.
‘Met Red Hat delen we een complementaire visie over open source, en we geloven dat opensourcesoftware in staat is om elke business te veranderen,’ aldus Ian McDonald, hoofd IT van de Symbian Foundation. ‘De samenwerking met Red Hat is een van de stappen om de Symbian code base geheel open source te maken.’
Door Red Hat Enterprise Linux in hun cloud omgeving in te zetten, vergroot de stichting zijn vermogen zich aan te passen aan economische veranderingen, nieuwe behoeften en toename van het websiteverkeer, zonder daarvoor extra te moeten investeren in onsite software en hardware. Verder zijn de prestaties en beheersbaarheid aanzienlijk verbeterd door het vereenvoudigd gebruik en verbeterde support.

Over de Symbian Foundation
De Symbian Foundation is een onafhankelijke non-profitorganisatie met als missie het mogelijk maken van een open ecosysteem dat samenwerkt om te zorgen voor de meeste complete en rijke gebruikerservaringen voor mobiele apparaten.
