Meppel, March 24, 2000 - AME Research BV, the European Financial ICT Research Company publishes its first environmental report. The value the company extracted from the environment in 1999 is expressed in money in this report. The financial operating income of AME Research BV in 1999 is € 17,687. The extracted value over 1999 has been € 1,900. As a result the sustainable operating income over fiscal 1999 is € 15,787.
The main environmental damage is caused by emissions of the chemicals CO2, NOx, SO2 and CO. AME Research BV does not own cars or lease cars. The company calculated the actual damage costs, consisting of damage repair and compensation cost. The method is mostly based on hypothetical costs because calculation of real damage costs is still difficult.
The burden a product places on the ecosystem from the moment of the manufacturing until the moment of its decomposition is the extracted value used to calculate. This burden is expressed in terms of the costs (shadow prices), which would have to be incurred either to undo the detrimental effect to the point where the natural ecosystem could neutralize it, or to develop a responsible alternative.
For AME Research the cost of environmental effects can be divided into five categories: Waste disposal, Electricity consumption, Natural gas consumption, Public transport and Private transport. For the year 2000 AME Research will monitor the environmental burden again. Much effort will be given to further specify the actual environmental costs as a result of the activities of AME Research. The company intends to market this methodology in the longer term. AME Research follows in this approach the footsteps of Eckart Wintzen, founder and former President of BSO/Origin in the early nineties.
