October 2006 – Verbatim has added the latest generation, version 1.2, to its LightScribe media product range: Hot on the heels of LightScribe DVD+R 16x and CD-R 52x, the Verbatim LightScribe DVD-R with 16x write speed is now available. The new blanks, which hold 4.7 GB, come in jewel cases in a five pack for €4.49 (RRP incl. VAT).
The development of this new media is in response to the growing demand for DVD-Rs with the laser-writeable surface and the Verbatim products offer an extremely high-grade alternative to the first generation of LightScribe media. The new media has a new and improved coating to further support the principle of “burn – turn – burn”. With the LightScribe laser, it takes just under 20 minutes to burn the entire surface, which coincidently was also developed by Verbatim parent Mitsubishi Kagaku Media and HP.
With the advent of LightScribe, smeary felt tip pens and self-adhesive labels have served their time. Burners featuring the LightScribe technology – such as those made by Philips, Benq, Pioneer, LG, Panasonic and Samsung – can be used to not only write data to disks, but also to print them with text and images, all with the same laser. The device transfers energy precisely to the thin coloured layer on the label side, depending on what needs to be printed. A chemical reaction occurs on the layer, leaving its mark on the blank. The result on Verbatim’s LightScribe-capable media is a brilliant satin finish, giving your home movie, company presentation or private photo collection a design to be proud of.
