Weybridge, Surrey, UK - 2nd June 2006 - Sirocom, the UK's fastest growing Virtual Network Operator (VNO), today informs the market that it has appointed Barrie Desmond as Marketing & Business Development Director. Joining Sirocom from his own successful international marketing and PR Company, Barrie will be responsible for driving strategic marketing and partner development.
According to Simon Rogan, CEO at Sirocom, Barrie's appointment comes at a key stage in the Company's evolution; "As we move forward into a new phase of growth, Barrie's wealth of experience and appreciation of the VNO model will prove an invaluable asset to Sirocom."
"His proven ability to deliver innovative and targeted campaigns will boost the Company's image and aid in attracting new customers and partners, whilst his contacts and knowledge of the industry will help in facilitating new business opportunities for sustained and strategic growth."
Best known as the founder of the successful Broadband4Britain campaign during which time he lobbied hard for accelerated deployment and fair access to broadband, continually berating the incumbents and other service providers, Desmond now finds himself on the other side of the fence.
Commenting on this, Desmond said, "The emergence of Broadband is playing a significant role in the way business is done and the value it brings to individuals and communities. Sirocom is a company that has shared this vision for a long time, and as a VNO, has utilised broadband and other high speed services to liberate a whole new range of business practices, applications and services that offer true value. The VNO proposition, like the Broadband4Britain campaign, is challenging traditional ways of providing telecoms and the incumbents don't like that, so in many ways it's the same principal - different campaign."
Desmond continued, "Sirocom is truly changing the face of business communications with its innovative Converged VNO model and I look forward to contributing to this success - it's another David vs. Goliath cause!"
Barrie Desmond has over 20 years experience of marketing and business development within the telecoms and networking sectors. He has held senior positions within a variety of blue chip, hi-tech companies including Newbridge, Nortel and Pirelli before setting up his own international marketing and public relations consultancy, Cohesive Communications in 1992. Barrie has been non-exec director of the Sirocom since early 2005.
