SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE: MFE), the leading provider in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, today announced that leading research firm Gartner, Inc. has placed the company in the leader quadrant in its "Magic Quadrant for Intrusion Prevention Systems, 2H05" as published on November 30, 2005. Gartner's research examined the security infrastructure products and services of leading vendors in the intrusion detection and prevention marketplace.
Gartner's Magic Quadrant on IPS represents the performance and capability of IPS vendors and is based on an assessment of a company's ability to execute and completeness of vision. According to Gartner, vendors listed in the leader quadrant have demonstrated a track record of delivering successfully in enterprise IPS deployments and winning in competitive assessments.
Factors contributing to a company's ability to execute include products and services, overall viability, sales and marketing execution, and track record. Gartner gauges a company's completeness of vision by considering its market understanding, sales and marketing strategy, offering or product strategy, business model, and innovation.
"We believe our position in the leader quadrant of this highly-regarded intrusion prevention systems assessment confirms our commitment and ability to proactively block security attacks for our customers," said Vimal Solanki, director of product marketing at McAfee, Inc. "Customers and partners turn to McAfee(R) intrusion prevention systems because it blocks attacks at both the network and systems level, and because of our comprehensive and proven approach to security solutions."
The report observes that "the network intrusion prevention system market is in a period of maturity and consolidation. A small group of vendors are getting an increasing percentage of the market, but the evolving threat means that those that fail to maintain innovation ahead of the market demands will be left behind."
Gartner predicts that "the network IPS market for stand-alone appliances was approximately $246 million in 2004 and will increase to more than $400 million by the end of 2005."
