Oracle Announces the General Availability of Oracle® HTML DB Release 2.0

Chase, KENROB, PGA and Starwood Take Advantage of Rapid Development Tool to Develop and Deploy Scalable and Secure Web Applications

ORACLE OPENWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, September 22, 2005 — Oracle today announced the general availability of Oracle® HTML DB Release 2.0, an Oracle Database 10g feature that enables customers to easily build, deploy and manage secure Web applications using only a Web browser.  Release 2.0 of Oracle HTML DB delivers a wider range of capabilities that allow users to more easily develop Web-based applications, design SQL queries, and edit SQL and PL/SQL within a Web browser.  The latest release also includes enhancements and new features that allow for overall greater ease of use, increased application performance, and tighter application security.

Organizations of all sizes and across various industries, including Chase Home Finance, KENROB Information Technology Solutions, Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA) and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, among others, are benefiting from Oracle HTML DB to quickly produce Web applications, consolidate disparate data sources such as spreadsheets and desktop databases, and centrally store sensitive information in a scalable and secure Oracle Database.  Over 140,000 users have downloaded Oracle HTML DB since its initial release in February 2004.

“Oracle HTML DB Release 2.0 delivers significant benefits to all users from sophisticated Oracle database developers to non-developer power users,” said Oracle Senior Vice President of Database Server Technologies, Andy Mendelsohn.   “We are very pleased to see how HTML DB Release 2 is enabling customers to build Oracle database applications for the web with incredible speed.”

New Release Improves Development Environment, Eases Routine Developer Tasks

The new and enhanced features in Oracle HTML DB Release 2.0 include:

• Create Application Wizard – enables users to quickly prototype applications and assemble multi-page applications with reports that drill down and breadcrumb menus for navigation;
• Enhanced SQL Workshop – new features in the SQL Workshop such as a graphical Query Builder, Object Browser and PL/SQL Editor makes viewing and management of database objects significantly easier; 
• Improved User Interface – new pull down menus and icon views enable users to navigate HTML DB more efficiently; and,
• Session State Protection – enables users to add an extra layer of security to an application by protecting against URL tampering, which adversely affects program logic, session state contents, and information privacy.

Broad Range of Organizations Benefit from Oracle HTML DB’s Ease-of-Use
Chase Home Finance, Chase’s mortgage, home equity lending, sub-prime lending and student loan division, has developed several data collection and reporting applications as well as financial calculators for internal use with Oracle HTML DB.  “Oracle HTML DB has helped our division realize huge cost savings,” said Chase Home Equity Information Solutions Group Applications Development Manager, Mark Moran.  “Not only are application development and deployment times much shorter with Oracle HTML DB, but it uses hardware resources much more efficiently as well.  It’s a great tool to build solid, secure Web applications on an Oracle Database.”

KENROB Information Technology Solutions, Inc., an Oracle PartnerNetwork member, based in Leesbug, Va., is an IT and management consulting services firm serving both federal and commercial clients. Currently, KENROB is working the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on a project to develop applications using Oracle HTML DB that enable the FAA to monitor air traffic pattern usage and statistics.  “Oracle HTML DB has allowed us to consolidate several disparate client/server reporting systems into a single, centralized Web-based application,” said KENROB IT manager, John Kelly.  “The sheer speed with which we can develop and deploy applications is unlike anything I've seen before.  The cost savings for the FAA resulting from consolidation and time saved on development are considerable.”

Based in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the PGA is a not-for-profit trade association that promotes the enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf.  Oracle HTML DB was key to the PGA’s efforts to centralize the administrative activities from their 41 PGA section offices at the national office. “Using our limited technical resources and Oracle HTML DB, we were able to quickly build and deploy several mission-critical applications – all of which tied in to our existing financial and identity management systems,” said PGA of America Senior Manager of Financial Systems, David Green.  “Through integration with Oracle E-Business Suite APIs, we were able to roll out new Web applications nationwide while maintaining a single source of truth for all our financial transactions.”

Starwood Hotel & Resorts Worldwide, one of the world’s largest hotel and leisure companies, used Oracle HTML DB to develop an application to track the projects and daily tasks of its DBA staff. “Oracle HTML DB is the fastest Web development tool for the database I’ve seen,” said Starwood Hotels Director of Database Engineering and Operations, Arup Nanda.  “It’s great because it makes it easy to leverage the security features for which Oracle Database is known.  We’re pleased with Oracle HTML DB Release 1.6, and the changes made in Oracle HTML DB Release 2.0 seem to take that ease and productivity to the next level.”
