Swindon, UK, February 17, 2005 - Intel today announced the 10-year anniversary of its reseller channel program, a worldwide network of distributors, resellers, dealers, local integrators and sales teams that has helped drive a dramatic increase in the availability of Intel-based solutions. Collectively, sales from this organisation now account for approximately one-third of all Intel processor sales.
Through the Reseller Channel Organisation, Intel develops and distributes Intel technology solutions to meet the unique requirements of local markets across EMEA. The success of the channel program in EMEA means it is now a 40,000 members-strong network represented in over 100 countries.
Much of Intel's focus in EMEA has been directed at developing channel presence in emerging markets. Africa now accounts for 3,000 of Intel's EMEA channel members after incorporating a further nine countries in 2004. New offices opened in Romania and Lebanon in 2004 and channel sales in Turkey have increased four-fold since 2000.
Intel has formed initiatives with governments and computer companies in several emerging markets to make PCs more affordable and to teach people how to use them. Some of the initiatives rolled out last year include Egypt's "PC for Every Home," and Russia's "Digital Week".
"Intel is committed to bringing computing and communications technologies to countries around the world," said Maurits Tichelman, Director of Sales and Distribution, Reseller Channel Operations, Intel EMEA. "We can accomplish this by helping to establish local businesses and providing training on how to build and sell computers. We also collaborate with local governments to bring PCs and technology literacy to people in order to bridge the technology gap between established and emerging markets."
The 10-year anniversary coincides with the formation of The Channel Products Group to expand on Intel's success in global markets. The first worldwide Intel channel programs began in 1994 and Intel launched its first boxed Intel(r) Pentium(r) Processor for the channel in 1995.
Today, Intel has expanded its offerings beyond that one product to include hundreds of building blocks for the desktop, server, mobile and communication segments. Intel's main focus for the EMEA channel is helping resellers, integrators and distributors develop and sell Intel-based mobile, enterprise and digital home products.
The success of the reseller channel in delivering server-based solutions to business in EMEA is evident from the figures. Today there are over 9,000 EMEA resellers in the Intel Integrator Program who build server solutions aimed at customers including SMB, education and corporates.
A key requirement to enable resellers to participate in the server business is simplicity. In 2004, Intel announced a new range of integrated server products - Intel(r) Server Platforms - specifically designed to help resellers enter the server market by reducing the complexity and time previously associated with building servers. Intel's channel's leading edge in the mobile solutions segment is apparent by the uptake of the latest Intel(r) Centrino(tm) mobile technology* platform for notebook PCs - with around 75 notebook PC designs to be available from channel resellers worldwide.
Intel provides a dedicated Web site for all members with valuable product and program information and advanced warranty replacement. For more information visit: www.Intel.Com/Reseller.
