Data security specialist Ibas has secured a three-year contract from Sweden’s armed forces logistics organisation to deliver software and hardware for deleting sensitive information.
This agreement has been negotiated in collaboration with Swedish dealer Atea, and is worth SEK 2.2 million to Ibas during the contract period.
- Over the past four months, we’ve secured assignments from the armed forces in both Norway and Sweden,” observes Bjørn Arne Skogstad, President and CEO of Ibas.
- The armed forces are now giving high priority to deleting sensitive data with the help of our software. This should send a signal to those parts of the public and private sectors which have yet to take seriously the security risks involved in replacing computer equipment. At the same time, the latest contract provides gratifying confirmation that our commitment to partners who can provide a central channel into their market is paying off.
The Swedish armed forces have previously required that all outdated storage media should be physically destroyed. Following an assessment of various deletion methods, with the emphasis on realising the financial value of outdated PCs while maintaining security, only Ibas received authorisation. The Swedes have now ordered the ExpertEraser software developed by the Norwegian company and three degaussers to demagnetise and delete storage media.
Atea is the largest Ibas dealer in Sweden, and the armed forces contract has been negotiated within its frame agreement with the Swedish Agency for Public Management.
- This assignment will present local authorities, county councils and central government agencies with a positive challenge to shift to simpler and more economic solutions for deleting sensitive information,” says Mr Skogstad.
- With complete security, they can now replace and pass on old PCs since these will remain intact with their original hard drive.
